Gxl Aas
Yea pretty much. How many miles on your car? There is a good chance your shocks and springs are gone if they are stock. I believe most if not all aftermarket suspension systems requires that you get rid of the AAS.

All right....they shocks are probably gonna be shot becuz the car has over 120k....so if were to get new ones...could i still use the aas or would i have to buy oem shocks or what? thanks for the post
I'm pretty sure that your can buy aftermarket struts but they have to be the electronic ones. I had a 86 GXL with the adjustable suspension, I bought the car with org 85k miles on it and I could not tell the difference between sport, & normal. I know Auto Zone had them they are like $180..00 each strut. I don't think it worth the money. Plus alot of time the acuators are messed up and so on............

It was, to answer the original question, a way to switch from a softer (normal) suspension for everyday driving so that it's smoother to a harder suspension for more ground feel and better traction during hard driving.
It was pretty cool when it worked but right now most cars have lost their shocks or, like in mine, the system has just stopped working.
Also, in most people's opinions it's not worth the price of fixing.
