what is the AAS? is it like the 3000 gt's ECS? where if u hit it, it changes to sport mode and stiffens the shcoks and opens up the exhaust more? or something like htat?

Yea pretty much. How many miles on your car? There is a good chance your shocks and springs are gone if they are stock. I believe most if not all aftermarket suspension systems requires that you get rid of the AAS.

well, it doesn't do anything to the exhaust, but it does stiffen/soften the struts.

I'm pretty sure that your can buy aftermarket struts but they have to be the electronic ones. I had a 86 GXL with the adjustable suspension, I bought the car with org 85k miles on it and I could not tell the difference between sport, & normal. I know Auto Zone had them they are like $180..00 each strut. I don't think it worth the money. Plus alot of time the acuators are messed up and so on............

Forget AAS. Worthless gimic. Invest money in a nice set of adjustables from tokico or KYB.

It was, to answer the original question, a way to switch from a softer (normal) suspension for everyday driving so that it's smoother to a harder suspension for more ground feel and better traction during hard driving.

It was pretty cool when it worked but right now most cars have lost their shocks or, like in mine, the system has just stopped working.

Also, in most people's opinions it's not worth the price of fixing.

You'd have to buy OEM to make it work. Parts are getting more expensive each year that goes by.

Mine still work 87 with 75K miles. Mine goes from quiet bottoming out to loud bottiming out. Mazda wants about 3.5K for springs and shocks.
