gutted/no cats

ok well, my knowledge comes from piston engines so i have some questions for the rx gods in here.

does ripping off the cat have any neg effects on a rotary? i know a piston engine uses the back pressure, and your vavles can wear out sooner with less of it (i know there are no valves like that in rotaries tho in case you thought i had smoked myself retarded). also will no cats cause you to sacrifice low end torque for high end hp? cuz i want the low end torque...so does that happen with rotaries?

Yes and no. If you have a 88 or earlier, you need the backpressure to open the 5th and 6th port actuators. Also, no backpressure = less torque. I have gutted cats, and I am about to bolt up a very high flow exhaust, it is not too bad a cut, but it is very noticible. If you want torque, or you have a 88 or earlier, leave on the cats.

do you have a turbo?

On the other hand, if you have a turbo, less backpressure = more torque. So, what kind of car do you have?

its an 88 NA, sorry i shoulda posted that earlier

so back pressure good for low end torque because of the 5th and 6th ports?

so should i just get a decent hi flow to replace the cloggy stock one?

or you could 'Y' off the air pump to activate your 5/6 port, instead of havint to rely on backpressure. There's a good thread(s) on this, but im on 56k & it sucks

Well I have an 86 N/A with a Straight pipe from the Exhaust manifold all the way back to an Apex-i Dunk Muffler...I have 0 cats, I have my 5th and 6th ports open..I lost a little bit of Torque when I wired them open..But gained a great deal of top-end power...I will be speed testing it tommorow to see if I can get over 120 mph...That is as fast as I could get it without the 5th and 6th ports opening...I will let you know how it goes...

WHAT?!?!? Okay, there are a million posts on this subject, but I just punched out my cats and wired my 6-ports open. Yeah, it takes a little of the line jump out of the car but lets be honest, HOW MUCH WAS THERE TO BEGIN WITH?!?!?! The 13b isnt a stump-puller, its made to rev. I can assure you, that the difference between my highflow cat system, and the gutted cats/wired 6-ports is very signifigant. All you gotta do is walk the clutch a little more. And if you have a slush-box, your screwed.
