Guru's HELP!! How Much Will This Cost?!?!?!?

Ok how much will it cost to:
-Pull my engine
-Drill out broken bolts from header instillation
-Install 2 Heli-coils (possibly 4)
-Reinstall engine
-Bolt on header

My mechanic neighbor said it will cost like $600. Is this correct? I am BROKE and I need to know how much $$$ I am gonna need to get my car running again!!!! I know that I can do the work myself, I just don't have the tools/time to pull my engine. I would also be doing this alone, with no previous experience, so I think a reputible shop could do it better. I can't even afford a tow to a shop so they can shoot me an estimate!!! HELP!!!!!

I'd say that amount of cash or more... $800 is my estimate.
Sorry to hear it bro. You sure you can't just tap the threads? Why do you need a helicoil? What happened?

I ripped out threads from 2 of the holes, and broke off bolts in the other two. HAILERS even said I would have to install heli-coils. Looks like I might just have to sell my Rex.

Bro, don't sell you car. If you can get the engine out, you can fix this. It really is quite easy. Drill into the broken bolts and then back them out with an easy out, and tap and drill larger holes for your header. $20 job for buying the tools and equipment, and $30 to rent an engine lift.

Can I do this with hand tools? I have no air tools. Also, HAILERS said I will HAVE to use heli-coils, and they have to be straight. How much of a job is this? I guess I Could wait till May when I get out of school and do this myself.....Ok, I can do this, thanks bro!! How long will it take?
EDIT: Where do I rent a A-Frame to pull the engine. I just looked in my Hayne's manual, this looks easy!!

All I use is a set of metric sockets and some metric box end wrenches. Disconnect the fuel lines, and then pull the harness off the ece. Take out the rad, battery, and fan, and then pull off the spark plug wires. Unbolt the p/s and hang it out of the way. Unbolt the two engine mounts, and the starter and unbolt the tranny from the engine. Then lift it out.
I doubt you need heli-coils. Just tap it the next SAE size up (barely larger) and install the necessary bolts/studs.

Good stuff. So I will need to not drain the oil? And Hayne's Manual says not to uninstall the radiator. And I remove the wiring harness form the ECU side, and just pull it through the firewall right? I don't have to remove it from the engienat all, I hope. Man, if I can do this, I can do anything!! Thanks a lot big bro!!

Sorry, yes, drain the oil; I forgot remove the oil lines on the right side of the engine.
Remove the rad. It is to easy to ding it and **** it up lifting the engine out and putting it back in.
As for clutch, no, just pull the engine forward and out of the tranny. (this is why you gotta be careful you don't swing it into the rad)

also, disconnect the wiring from the alternator, the hose form the driver's side of the engine to the firewall, and lable everything you take off. IE: if you disconnect a wire, put a piece on each side of it with labelling on both sides reading 'A'.

LOL.
Anyone else interested in a complete list of exact instructions for removing a S4 or S5 NA (or turbo if anyone wants), can email me. I should have it done tomorrow.
I'm trying to make it as comprehensive and complete as possible.
Haynes Manual SUCKS for engine removal!

Alright, I am just about finished. I am just going back and re-reading it, and adding anything I may have forgotten (like the power brake booster vaccum hose at the back of the engine). G/f is coming over soon, but it can be emailed out by around 8 pm my time this evening.

Who do you love?

I don't suppose you could post this write up to a web site somewhere? I am almost certain that there are several web pages out there that would love to have their hands on instructions on pulling a 13B, www.nopistons.com for one would probably love to put it in their faq

Perhaps Scott Mackenzie will put it on his site, or Dave Gibson. Really, someone has to contact them for me.
I really would like to wait until I can do one and take pictures, but that may be a few months.
The write-up is now available, and in a thread in the second gen forum.
