GTU Steering rack leak???

GTU Steering rack leak???

I am buying an 88 GTU and the power steering rack leaks(about a quarter size every time parked). Is this a problem withh these car, and how much to get it fixed....THANKS!!!!

that is normally not a common problem.

Don't know how much to get it fixed, because I don't know where the leak is exactly.

I have the same prob. Took it to the dealership to verify what exactly was causing the leak. They told me it was the entire rack & pinion, that the part is $1800 plus $600 labor I would find out for sure what the source for that leak is.

I have an '86 GXL that had a similar problem when I bought it. I searched all over and found the problem to be from the PS pump itself, both from the reservoir and the shaft bearing. I bought a used PS pump from a local junk yard for $20 and put it in. No leaks at all.
