Neither. The Turbo II had the Turbo II drivetrain. The GTUs shares the same drivetrain as the S5 n/a with the exception of a 4.30 VLSD rearend.

It didn't have the TII tranny. It did have the TII suspension and brakes.

Neither the GTU or GTUs model had the Turbo drive train. Both those being non- turbos had the standard non turbo drive train.

Now the 88 GTU (and 86-87 Sport) had the same suspension as the Turbo, and all 89-91 coupes had the same suspension (so the 89-90 GTU and GTUs would have had the same suspension as the 89-91 Turbo), so maybe that is what is being confused.

And the 89-90 GTUs had the same wheels as the 89-91 Turbo.

But the tranny, drive shaft, and half shafts on all the GTU and GTUs models was the same as any other non-turbo, and the 88 GTU and 89-90 GTUs did have a LSD, but it was still the small 7 inch sized ring gear found in non turbo rear ends. Turbo rear ends used a 8 inch ring gear.

That should be in the FAQ if it's not (which I don't think it is). I see this question a lot and it's mis-answered very often.

I copied the FAQ and made it easier to read/edit.

I added this information:

What Ice said is not in the FAQ but I agree it should be added.

There was also some talk about the GTUs tranny having a different (taller?) 5th gear despite it being a non-turbo transmission. Any clarification on that, Ice?

If you ever need to know anything about what our cars came with stock... go to Advance Search, type in what you're looking for (I used "GTUs" in this case) and put in "Icemark" under the user name section.

depends on series.

S4 GTU Clutch pack 4.1
S5 GTU open 4.1
S5 GTUs VLSD 4.3

S4 Turbo Clutch 4.1
S5 Turbo VLSD 4.1

Why are you telling me it depends on series and then stating what car had what rear?

The GTUs shares the same drivetrain as the S5 n/a with the exception of a 4.30 VLSD rearend, as I posted above. You only re-iterated that for me. It was the ONLY FC available with the 4.30 rear gears, no matter the series.

So...what's your point?

actually the Japanese models the Infini III and Infini IV both also had the 4.3 rear end gearing.

Not true. Same tranny as every other S5 N/A. Look in the "what did my car come with" sticky. It lists the gear ratio's for every transmission and every gear.

Right. It would only make sense considering what they are.

This is the thread I was referring to. It appears that there was a different part number for 5th gear in the GTUs trans. I've read the specs thread, trust me. But I was pointing out that there was some dispute on the .697 ratio.
