The ground wire on engine bay..

Will there be no spark if theres no engine bay ground? Im trying to start my t2 but it wont give any spark. I thought bout it and checked the for a ground wire under the UIM. Theres none on the harness. I compared it to the other t2 in my lot and that t2 has the 2 ground wire but this one doesnt.

Can i just find the pin on the ecu plug and put a wire from there to the engine bay as the ground. If so which pins are they on the plugs?

The ground that attaches to a bolt under the UIM is for the ECU. If it's missing, yeah, you'll have some big problems. Go to the FSM fuel and emissions section (and wiring diagrams) and find the ECU pin outs. Take the wires listed as grounds and connect them to a ring terminal. Ground the ring terminal to where the ECU bolts down, and presto: newly grounded ECU.

thanks. i rechecked the harness and it looks to have been modified with different injector plugs. i guess they cut out the ground wire and retapped it. I knew there had to be a ground wire there. just had to make sure since this harness didnt.

So you found them then?

If you need it: two thick black wires connected to pins 3G and 3A

Depends whether series four or five. Series five has a couple of ECU gnd wires that are B/W. Series four are all black.

Me thinks you don't know how to read the ECU plugs. You look into the WIRE side of the connector and count from the RIGHT to the LEFT in a up/down method.

3I is black/white. That's 3eye.

Have you checked to see if there is voltage on the B/Y wire as it comes out of the main relay?

I'm having the same problems on my N/A aswell. What I was told is that there has to be a short somewhere in the harness, but I haven't looked yet.
