Ground-Control Coil overs

Ok I searched.....lol

I ordered some Tokico Illumina's
should arrive tommarow

Now I need to order the GC kit with camber plates
But I'm still racking my brain as to what spring rate to use
spring I.D and size

Most of the info I searched on spring rates etc
have been for road/auto X use
and I prefer the 1/4 mile strip
Note: I removed the front sway bar

Now the stock spring rates are
95 (F)
90 (R)

reading this searched thread
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...t=spring+rates

I see Ted thinks a 10" spring would be a better fit for the rear

My initial thoughts on a combo
would be:
2.25 I.D springs
10" for the back
7" or 6"? for the front

275 or 250 spring rate for the front
200 or 175 for the back

My car hooks VERY hard now
1.48 60' foot last week

current suspension
140K stock springs and front struts
and KYB AGX shocks in the back set to 7
Now if I push on the front of the car
the right side goes down easier then the left
Which means I have a right blown strut
which could add to my problem of my front end "bounce" as i attempt to go down the strip
I loose steering and I have to let off the gas to correct the car
vid can be seen here agaisnt a 10.6 monte carlo (had to let off the gas)
see how my car bounces? (try playing it in slow motion)

http://cfiracing.com/mypics/a7-14507074334%5b1%5d.mpeg

in essense this my problem
as Dan Schechter from jigsawrx7.com was kind enough to point out for me

"during shift, has a lot of rebound back to the front, then bottoms out in the rear during on-throttle, causing the car to feel unstable"

The good thing about the GC system
is I can play with diffrent spring rates
but I would still would like decent combo when I order
instead of just quessing..............

The spring rates they give you for the "off the shelf" ones are plenty good for all around use, 350 front 275 rear. However, if you CALL ground control and talk to them, tell them the rest of your suspension setup and what your intentions (1/4 mile) are for the car, they can suggest a better suited spring rate for your specific use.

I think the reason Ted was talking about 10" rears was for stock height maybe? This way you have stock height but improved performance of the spring.

What are your intentions? Do you want the car lower all around (front/rear)? If so don't go with 10" rears, get the 8" rears, you'll have plenty of adjustability with those.

Get 6" front springs, especially if you've done any weight reduction to the front, but I don't know if you have. I have my 6" front slammed as low as possible with the racing beat 3/4" lowering strut tops, and it's about 1" lower than stock I believe. If I dialed it all the way back up to the top it could be stock, or even higher than stock I believe.

My suggestion would just be the same spring sizes I got, 6" front 8" rear, but 10" rears will be basically stock height I think, all depends on what you want.

Best suggestion I have for spring rates is to talk to ground control, they're very willing to help if you call them and talk about custom spring rates for whatever you want to use the car for.

Thanks
yea 6" front sounds fine
I think ted said with the 8" in the back he has the GC threaded all the way up
to maintain a stock height
But with a 10" spring
the threads would be in the "middle" for a stock height
and then you can raise or lower it from there

I did call GC yesterday and there clueless
He said "I can't give you any recommendations since we're only into road racing"

I have no A/C P/S
eletric fan
Koyo Rad
93 Intake manifold
no front sway bar
no front or rear bumper supports

and yes I want to lower the car..... It helps to
reduce rolling back onto the front springs during shift, but more importantly help to keep the car body in a similiar plane.

Hmmm, usually they're more helpful heh.

With the 8" rears I'm about 3/4 the way down to get it at the ride height you saw in my thread, so take that for what it's worth.

As far as spring rates go, I'm not sure. There was a guy on here doing some testing with different spring rates for his ground controls a long time ago that was putting down lots of power and did drag, but I can't seem to find the thread.
