Greetings everyone, noob here.

Hi y'all. Yeah, I'm a noob to this forum as far as posting goes. I've lurked on occasion trying to dig up information. My first post was a year or so ago, but was pretty much just a sentimental "wazzap" post.

I've officially resurrected my 2nd gen from storage to start the long process of turning it into a weekend fun and gun track day machine. With my budget, it will probably take me about 3 years to finish. Along the way, I will be doing some Solo I/II events in order to qualify for the Mazda Motorsports program, but the goal is to keep it streetable, even if only for occasional use.

It's a Platinum/Champagne (what's the right word?) '90 GXL 5spd. Has about 140K, and about 35K on a rebuilt motor. Only mods to date are an HKS intake and Greddy Power Extreme exhaust. I have no idea what its potential is with the different porting schemes, but I would be rather disappointed if I couldn't get it to 200HP. I would generally be happy with 225 and I would be freakin' ecstatic with 250+.

Here are some pics:

Well, gotta try to do some work, although my head is swimming with project details.

So.. very clean! I really like how the exhaust looks.. The N1's seem to have such a strange angle, but those look nice. Those 4" tips?

Actually, it's damn filthy. It just looks clean because the color hides the dirt pretty well. But thanks anyway.

I think so. Never measured them actually.

It's been "off the road" for 2 1/2 years, meaning no tags, no insurance, etc. It was also over an hour and a half away from my place, so even if I got the other stuff taken care of, I wouldn't want to drive it that far without some serious looking over.

Very nice! I had a 90 GXL same color. Mazda actually calls in " Winning Silver", I had crushed the whole front end and had it repainted.

Stock 15s. The future plans include some 17" OZ Superleggera in anthracite for the street, with these serving as track wheels.

I may be a noob here, but I practically live on AudiWorld with my other obsession, a black '01 A4.

First thing - headers.
Second - ram air & cold box. (If you don't already have it)
Third - porting.

Well, first thing is getting it back on the road with some good old fashioned TLC. Replace all the belts/hoses. Check the tires. Rebuild the brake calipers. Flush and replace all the major fluids. Give the engine a good tune-up. That's the major goal for this year.

Next year is when the "go fast goodies" will get added on.
