Got T2 Painted Satin Black

I got my 87 T2 painted Satin Black with no clear coat to have that flat blackish look, This wasn't a cheap paint job by any means. It cost me $1700, at the same time I had the driver and passanger windows replaced with speed glass racing windows for $300. Leave feed back, I know a lot of people hate the "flat black" look but one glance and you can tell this was done correct, and it's not a spray can job by any means.........Enjoy

I'm not a fan of the flat black look but it does look well done, are your headlights broken?

I'm not really a fan of the Flat Black look, but your car looks clean with it. Looks like a high quality job.

That looks really good.

I second the tinted window comment. Some nice dark tint (or at least as dark as is legal, and maybe a it beyond) would look beautiful on that car.

you know that you can get a matte clearcoat right? The only thing I'd be worried about with that job is how easy topcoat scratches/fades without something to protect it..

yes.

Edit: Although, there are some tricks that the auto shop might have used, such as using a single stage paint instead of a dual stage (clearcoat mixed in with the paint, instead of doing a paint and then clarcoat setup)..

Hopefully not, The body shop I got it done at said no it wouldn't with what he did to paint it, said he does it all the time to hot rods. we will find out though in the near future. If it does chip or fade I will have to get it painted again and go a different route.....I really don't want to have to spend the money on painting again in the near future, but if it has to be done.... it has to be done.

Yeah, i figured the body shop would make sure that it wasn't just straight, normal, base coat. It should hold up decently then. It still probably won't last as long as a normal paint job (espeically if it's stored outside), but it will hold up better than just straight base coat.

looks good. new wheels and tires would make it look even better. i always hated when the wheels were darker than the tires but the body (the important part) ooks really good.

When I did my 1st gen widebody in the matte black. I used a single stage urethane paint. That stuff is tougher and less scratch resistant than any other paint I have worked with. I messed up the hood on the first go, waited a week and had to start with 150 grit paper to cut it down.

Yours should hold up well. Looks like they did a good job. Black paint, glossy or not, is hard to get to look right.

Don't like it since it does remind me of the SCC project Suby and their black spray can job. Did you do the wheels with a spray can or is it just the angle? Same thing with the area over the rear driver side brake lights, is that a dent or a angle of the flash?

the wheels I spray painted flat black, I did a few coats but it would not stay an even color for the life of me. The color of the car above the light is that way because of the lighting, the paint on the car is great as of now. I am only using these wheels until spring, then I will get some 17 in Borbet type S wheels. I actually will get 6 wheels. 4 with good rubber and 2 with rubber for my drifting events. I don't really want to tint the windows because I do drift in this car and I really need to see what I am doing well. The exhaust system is an Apexi dual exhaust unit. Thanks for the replies.
