WTF is this crap? If you had no oil in your engine, you'd have more problems than your gauge not working.
Have you done anything under the hood lately? There's a small black condenser on the oil pressure sensor, that if removed (or broken off in most cases) will either give you a reading of no oil pressure, or max out the gauge.

Disconnect the single wire plug to the oil sending unit and w/key to on ground out the wire and check to see if the gauge needle climbs to the top as it should which would reflect that the gauge itself is okay. Ground out the wire just long enough to check the movement of the needle and no longer. If the gauge works then either the connector to the sending unit is very poor and needs to be cleaned or the sending unit is inoperable.

the connection to the sender is in a bad spot and usually collects oil and crap or the wiring harness pulls it off the pin on the sender. clean or reconnect it. the condenser being unplugged or misplaced won't stop the gauge from working, 90% of the cars i work on that condenser is nowhere to be found, it just cleans up the signal from the sender which without it is hardly noticable.

Like they said, you're not looking for the condenser wire. All that is, is a little capacitor that prevents excessive fluctuations in the oil pressure reading. It works just the same without it as it does with.
What you're actually looking for is the oil pressure sending unit wire. It's a little wire that clips on to a cylinder about an inch long and 2" in diameter on the driver's side near the back of the block, a little underneath the oil filter. If someone recently changed your oil or replaced any of the hoses nearby, it's quite possible that it came right off.
