Got hit and now someone want's to buy
To make a long story short I got hit by some guy running a red light. He took off and now my car is not looking to good. Some guy said he would by it for $500. My friend was telling me the engine was worth around $500. I think I could make more selling it for parts. What do you think? It currently has 49722 miles on it. It’s a blue non-turbo 1989 GTU. Here are some pictures.

Although the pictures aren't the best, it looks very fixable to me (35 years auto body and restoration experience). Have a reputable body shop give you an estimate and then decide what to do. Don't make a decision based on posters opinions who haven't seen the car 1st hand and who may or may not have any autobody experience.

you have to figure some things out.
Is the frame bent or tweaked? How badly?
How much will it cost to repair?
Do you have a place to store a shell/parts?
do you have the time, patience, know-how to Properly remove what you wanna sell?
post more detailed pics of interior exterior and engine bay.
Find out how much interiors go for and figure out how much you think you can make off of everything

strike up the paean
if you do it the right way it'll cost a ton to straighten the frame, assuming its actually bent
of course you could do it the wrong way and pull out the frame with a winch, a lift, a telephone pole and some creativity
then dial out any remaining alignment issues (if any) with aftermarket adjustable suspension components
body parts are not a big deal at all
neither is the rad support
get another fender and test fit
or make measurements ala fsm
see how bad the frame is tweaked

what did you have? Uninsured motorist should help you. Say the other person probably had no insurance and they ran. Come on guy start making problems for them. What's the point of having insurance monthly if they are just gonna say: "we already have all your money, **** off."
Don't let them **** you over cuz you're young or any other reason. You pay them so they can protect you later.

Unisured motorist only covers bodily injury, lawyer fees and loss of wages for the driver and his passengers if you have it on your policy. Its not manditory where I am.
The collision deductible would apply to this. (yes I am an insurance agent.)
I would talk to your insurance agent and see if he has a body shop to recommend. I have one I use that gets my customers a break.
Take the car to a professional and quit asking on here. They can measure it and get you an exact figure.
I personally would look at having it fixed. Nice S5's are hard to come by in my area.
Good luck and keep us posted.

I stripped a TII down to a complete bare shell and chopped the roof. Had to pay nothing for them to take it. The shell is worth about $100-200 in raw metal. Why the heck would you pay for them to take it?
I don't think the damage is woth reparing. Part it out. Be sure to take video of you starting and running the engine. It will help when you sell it. Proof that it was working when removed.

First off are you carrying comp and collision coverage or just liability? Insurance will do nothing if he has liability only.
I personally don't think that looks too bad. I have had one in worse shaped repaired. Most FC's still on the road have been in some sort of an accident anyway.
The majority of the damage looks ahead of the strut tower. Listen to the guy who has 35 yrs of bodywork experience up there.
It has obviously been sitting for a while seeing all the dust on it.

Ouch!
Parting it out will net you more money but it takes effort\time to strip parts and ship them out.
Fixing it will be expensive and I don't think it would ever be the same.
