got a dilemma

Alright, I found an RX7 for sale at a car place. Very kick ***, its an 88 SE. I would love to buy it since my current car is a POS (look at the name) but my dad owns his own garage and has full hatred of the rotary engine and believes I should just find another car or keep the car I have now. Thing is I love how unique the rx7 is and I've been wanting one forever. I drove the car, engine sounds good, clutch has no slippage, gear shift is alittle loose, but not really a problem. No rust on body and the clear coat isn't peeling. So... my plan is.... buy it anyways and then move off to college and not tell them about it... yay. So basically what I'm asking is, what should I be looking for to insure that it is a good purchase? I know about the problem with the dampner on the fuel rail and how to fix that, but what are some major things I should be aware of to look for?

how many miles on the motor past 100k start saving up for a rebuild even tho they can last pretty damn long also just make shure the car is in good shape i personally wouldnt pay nemore than $2k to 2.5k for an SE thats my opinion of course just make shure the car runs good and really has no mechanical problems.....

in what shape is the car the car would have to be immaculate for me to pay that much other wise i wouldnt do it and if anything buy a really cheap rx7 and buy a rebuilt motor check www.autotrader.com and check in your area and theres many peeps here that can rebuild engines for about 2k and last you a good amount of time if you take care of it...

The car is actually pretty kick ***, the entire interior is perfect, the guy took really good care of it, only thing is there is rust on the driver side door chrome molding, the passenger side mirror is halfway broke and there are some paint smudges on the driver side front fender where he grazed some things while turning. other than that, its perfect, everything I've used on it works, except for the windshield wiper, but I got rain x for that . I could prolly talk them down though, since I would be paying in cash money.

If you've got 2k to spend on a car you should keep shopping around. It sounds like an o.k. deal but for that amount you could probably find something a lot better. I'm getting an 88 GTU with an S5 motor for $2000. The body has less than 90k miles on it and the engine has around 90k miles on it. Interior is good as new and paint is decent.
I'm probably about your age cuz I'm also about to go to college. Just a little bit of advice from one of your peers..DON'T be too anxious about getting a car! That's the biggest mistake you can make cuz you'll end up going for the first deal that sounds halfway decent. I made that mistake when I bought my 1st car (240sx). I love 240s but this one was a POS and I went through a bunch of crap trying to get it registered b/c the title was VOID. So be careful. Just keep checking the forums, or ebay, or autotrader and you'll end up finding a good deal.
Try to find a GXL. (thats just my opinion!)
GOODLUCK!!!
