WTF?

If I understood well, your cone filter is gonna get WET if you drive at rain (**** happens- you can get caught at the road by a... sudden rain). It might get wet if you drive above water on the street... Wet filter= disaster...

Ah, so this thread is back from dead.

That small filter I bought at the local auto parts store.. just a breather filter.. commonly found.

Remeber people air flows were there is least ristance.. Water is HEAVY compared to air.. So unless you get the filter 100% underniethe water you should be fine.. Its like sucking soda through a cracked straw... good luck.

I've driven this setup in the rain already with NO ill effect, NO studder, NO nothing.

This is a very creative project. . having said that now its time to rant.
That setup is trash.
1. Your eliminating somewhat imprtant things like the windsheild washer for a less then noticeable air temp. Your blocking the brake cooling duct, those are important, regardless of rain. and your going to suck in a lovely amount of water "if" you hit a puddle too deep.
Theres a much better and more practical way of getting cooler air to the intake.
Make a cold air box with a duct exiting out the bottom and place the duct in the front grille, same effect without the side effects
the pictures below are great examples of well done CAI systems (owners of car sorry for using your pics )

While I agree with your rant about loosing important things for a CAI, I'm going to have to disagree with you about you examples of proper CAI's. These two are not the best examples of well done boxes - infact, the first one is basically useless, and the second is not much better.

Using the stock snorkle to feed air into a cold air box is a complete waste of time. That system was used to SUCK air from infront of the rad. Because the stock box is sealed, the end of the intake can be put anywhere that cooler air sits - like infront of the rad. As soon as you eliminate the sealed box (like we have here) then that snorkle does nothing! There is ZERO airflow to that location under normal driving, so therefor NO air will get forced into the newly created box. It's a warm air box.

The second one relies totally on the headlight cover. As noted earlier - air takes the path of least resistance, and into that small opening (through a screen) and around the headlight assembly is not the path of least resistance! While is is better than the top one, it is sill not great. And what happens at when your lights are on? Do you not need cold air at night?


You can make a box that gets a lot of cold air,
Keeps the filter out of the elements,
Doesn't block the brake ducts,
Retains winshield washer capability.

The downside?
No more headlight washers. I say that's a good trade.
