got an accident today...

Yea so I was driving to my friend's house and was making a left turn into a residential street. I turn left and woops wrong street, so I make a u-turn at the intersection and go behind this blue 350Z. I didn't make a full u-turn so the car wasn't straight. Oh well I could go as soon as the Z turns.

The 350Z was turning left to the street where I was from. He went outside a little to much and since a car was coming he reversed.
He then bumped my car.
He got out and told me that since I couldn't make a u turn here it was my fault. So I give him my info and also he made me write "I will pay for all damages" and sign. I didn't get his info.
He seemed like a nice guy but I'm wondering, is it really my fault? I was stopped when he hit me.

Here is a diagram to understand better. I'm the red rectangle and he's the blue one.

The first mistake you did was writing (admitting) that you are at fault and signing it.
First: you never admit it was your fault even if it was your fault.
It going to be hard to get out of this one you will have to pay for his damages.
Second: you should have gotten his info also. Are you going to call your insurance company? They need the info also.
Third: it is his fault he back in to you. its like if you would have been behind him straight and he decided to back up it and he hit you. it is his fault.

You should have said well "i have to call the insurance company" and even called the police for a report.
They might get you for ilegal u-turn but for the accident he would have to pay.

I recommend calling your insurance and explaining what happen. FYI your insurance might go up if you go that route.
Talk to one of your family members more advice on your situation.

Yep call the insurance company. They decide who is at fault. Doesn't matter what you signed probably. Insurance companies always figure it out. He doesn't want to use insurance because he knows it was his fault. Always call the police and wait for them unless YOU have something to hide.

This is a learning experience for you bro. I had some **** happen to me that made me learn my lesson.

First of all here is what happened to me.

When I was 17 years old I go and park my car at the 7-11. Right when I am about to get out of my car the lady to the right of me backs out and apparently dosent see my car to her left and hits the crap out of the side of my car. Smashes it good (she had a big brown Oldsmobile).

So I figure there is no way this could go either way....its obviously her fault. We exchange insurance and I go to work and come home 4-5 hours later. RIght as I walk in my dad says my insurance company called and that I need to call them asap.

Come to find out the lady called her company and said it was my fault. I was furious so I took it upon myself to prove it all wrong by taking pictures of the damage and pointing out the way the dents were done that it was impossible for me to hit her with the side of my car.

It actually worked....but it was very hard.

ALWAYS file a police report. Use your phone as you are in the car to call the cops if you have a cell phone and try not to exchange any insurance until the cops get there. Find a witness also. If the person says he dosen't have time for the cops to come and needs to go and offers insurance....refuse it. If the person does not wait...it' considered a hit and run.

Go take pic's of your car now and write down exactly what happened including the u-turn you did. The ******* that did this is trying to trick you into thinking you are wrong. That is why he said to do it out of pocket and that is also why he made you sign it. Heck your young and he thinks you are dumb....

Do you have to train to become as stupid as you are?

I guess parallel parking is illegal.

he backed into you when you were stopped. the circumstances leading up to that dont matter.. maybe if you u-turned into him, but you were stopped when he hit you. if he didnt check before he backed up, then its his fault. especially if he was backing up because he stopped too far forwards. never admit guilt right off the bat. you're probbably hosed.

Your insurance company will be pissed that you "accepted liability"... Claim that you signed it under duress and that the other person was being unduly intimidating.

Im under the impression that the reason why the other guy told you that he wants everything fixed without the insurance is because he doesnt have an insurance. I would've atleast wrote down his license plate #..

essentially it would have been your word against his if there was no ax report made or witnesses then it dosent really matter what you did to get into that situation what maters is the action made to cause the ax which is him backing up " he who hesitates is lost" he made the mistake of second guessing his opening of which no fault is yours however if you are over 18 then by you signing a statment saying that you will pay for all repairs the that is some what of a contract and could be legally binding unless extinuating circumstances exist i find that it is best to keep your mouth shut and let him do the talking and calmy state that he will have to wait for a police report to be made if he says no that your on your way if you still want one and he leaves then he left the scene of an ax and you are still in the clear
