Good Turbocharger For S4 T2.
Well, I want to get a little over 400RWHP and I wanted to know what would be my best turbo application. I'ver heard a lot of good things about the T04E, will that be able to get me up to around 400-430RWHP? What other choices do I have? Do T04Es use journal or ball bearings?
I need suggestions, thanks.

mmMMMmm a garrett GT35R will get you there and it will be durable. the TO4 and TO4E are a little on the small side and to get your wheel goals you would definitely be straining the turbo to get there. as a general matth equation look at it this way... rwhp = engine hp x .85 becuase there is generally a 15% loss of hp in the drive train. KEEP IN MIND THAT IS A CONSERVATIVE NUMBER. so no flaming from those who don't lose that much.
so you are looking for 400whp that would be 400whp = Z x .85 ...processing... 460 BHP
so you will need a turbo to lay down 460HP at the crank of the engine.
you'll also want to have ball berrings in the turbo or have 360degree oiled journal berrings.
and like i stated in your other post look in the turbo section of this forum. those guys really know what there talking about... (for the most part) you may find a few ppl full of it.

hope that helps,

i have a t04e on my car right now. they (atleaset min) are a journal bearing turbo. Its a pretty impressive turbo. I have never dyno'ed mine but i have seen some sheets with power numbers around 415-420. I might be selling mine soon if u are interested, going bigger again when my bridge motor is done.....

t04e too small for 400whp? Are you nuts? Too small for 800hp maybe.
And a t04e is just a compressor housing and nothing more. The turbocharger it's attached to can use all sorts of different bearings, compressor wheels, turbines, exhaust housing sizes and etc.

Agreed. I wouldn't go any bigger than a 57trim E honestly, personally I'd go with something smaller and run more than 15+ to gain the power...

what you want is the gt35r. No question in my mind. It's one of the most highly recommended turbos. For anyone in that power range (400hpish) it is IMHO the best turbo. Just about fastest spool (ballbearing turbo), which you're going to need for your drifting or anything else that needs quick response. The only drawback is its higher price. You can achieve the same kind of power cheaper with, say, a 60-1 or T04E 60.

We put together non-bb 35Rs here, with P trim turbine wheels if you want an more updated turbo without the high price of the BB chra. We are a garrett dealer and custom make garrett turbos, along with full kits.

if you decide to go with a larger non hybrid setup, i have a brand new turbonetics 60-1 CHRA with p-trim exhaust wheel for sale. you can order the turbine housing that best suits your needs. i had planned on going with the .84 A/R but decided i had more important things to spend my money on.

^ good question.
Is the stage 4 made 402 rwhp, why wouldnt I get one of those since It will bolt to my manifold.
Im particularly running a series 5 turbo on a 13b-re with a standalone, so this would be a very cost effective option for me.

Advantages of a BNR?
Bolt on, makes good power, quick spool, very cost effective.
Disadvantages of a BNR?
Hmmm, actually have to think about this one. If you aren't looking to make more than 400whp, then i guess there really isn't any disadvantages.
If it's not a bolt on hybrid like the BNR's, then the overall install price isn't much cheaper than a non-hybrid setup because you still have to buy the manifold and downpipe.
I had only planned on making 400whp, but i chose to go with the 60-1 because it looks cooler and i was going to use a .84 A/R to make it more functional at low revs.
When i think of hybrids, i think high shaft speeds which leads to accelerated wear on the bushings. bigger turbos make the same boost a lower shaft speeds. try running 15-20 psi on the stock turbo and see how long it lasts.

bnr's lose boost at higher rpms and create alot of high egt's. but, they are a great cost effective way to get some decent power. if your wanting ATLEAST 400rwhp with the intention of maybe turning up the wick for more then definitely go with a non-hybrid real turbo. the gt35 from garret definitely is a good turbo, we put these on a car atleast once every couple weeks and they do well... but my personal favorites are the Turbonetics 62-1 and the Garret GT4088.
