Good sub location for vert?(PICS)
i was looking into putting some subs in my vert and i cant find to many places that are suited for one. so i was thinking about putting a 8" behind each seat and i looked at the framing and it looks a little beefy but i think i have seen others do this before.
-so basically i was wondering if this is an important sub frame part or what.

I dont have pics available yet. Since my spair tire mount was cut out by the previous owner, I am molding a box into the shelf behind that brace. The speaker will fire upwards.
By the way, that cross support is the structural replacement for the roof in a coupe. Take that out and the car has a tendancy to flex length wise along the driveshaft tunnel. Not a good idea to mess around with.

My brother had an MR-2 and he had 8s in a box behind the two seats. I'm about to do that because he doesn't have the car anymore. But I'm not tall so my seat doesn't go all the way back there so I have room. I'll post pics when this happens =P

Mine. 1 -10" sub, 2 amps and the relocated battery.
Allows normal operation of the top and is completely hidden.
I had to ditch the spare though.
Here is a very nice system with two subs that maintains the spare tire:

- I don’t mean to argue but I just really like that spot and I was just wondering if that is still to much framing removed.
-personally I just don’t want to put the subs IN the spare tire area because imoa I think that it would be muffled or drown out but I don’t know.
Also i was wondering if the chassis still roles a whole lot with my kyb suspension installed at 6/6. just out of curiosity?

go ahead and cut the bracing. Why not, not like anyone is telling you not to. But when your car tweeks itself all out of wack don't come back asking how to fix it. Good luck.

Customize a box and put it under that blue carpet in the back! The only thing under that is a giant space. Take off that hard peice of carpet under the top and you'll see what im talking about.

Ok, here goes a slightly different answer for you. Basically you have a couple of options here. You can cut the bracing (which I DO NOT recommend in a vert!) and install it there, but you will experience a serious decrease in handling, and you will gain much more body roll. The rule of thumb is that convertibles have crappier handling because of a lack of a non-removeable roof, and added weight from bracing (placed to compensate for the lack of a non-removeable roof). Now secondly, and I know you want as much space as you can get in the rear, you could mount a tube (NOT a Bazooka) subwoofer and fab some ductwork the same size of the port hole in the tube, and then run it up and into the passenger compartment and have it exit and end at the bracing area (which you will have to cut out a hole that is going to be considerably smaller than the hole you wanted to put there for the sub) and call it a day. Or, you could mount a pair of Bass Shakers (one each under each seat) and simulate the sound of subs with vibrating devices. And lastly, you could do as most others recommend and put it in the spare tire area. The bass will not be muffled or muddy. Bass is "Omni-directional", meaning that for the most part, it cannot be blocked or directed very well. It will find it's way past the carpeting and into your ears, and into the ears of your neighbors, and drivers in the cars next to you at stoplights, etc., etc.

THANK YOU for the friendly straight forward answer. i didn’t imply any rudeness in my previous statement but some people just like to jump i guess. And no i don’t want to decrease handling iv all ready spent to much for a track car suspension to kill it now.
-i guess that i will just mount it in the spare tire area science it is not muffled or distorted

Ok how about this I cut off or try to cut or work around the tire mount. I use liquid nails to secure specifically located strips of wood. I custom or rough lay a whole sheet of plywood(or other) over the whole area on which I mount the amp on the very back. I cut two holes so the subs fit in the empty area there. Then I screw the whole set up to the strips.
_the thing is I don’t know if I NEED to make a box or not, imo I think that this compartment is sealed enough to where it is not necessary. But if I should how big should they be.

my 2 cents -- if you can create a setup similar to Dave's, you'll be in great shape...
Do yourself a favor, don't EVER cut any bracing out of a 'vert. Don't ever compromise no matter what someone thinks will work or won't be affected by it...
Oh, and no offense to RX7Ryder, but do you seriously just have that thing flinging around back there? Is it even attached to anything? Looks scary to me...
