Is it a good mod?
I want to ask you guys, 'cause i'm sure you know the right answer.
I saw on ebay and read somewhere that if you diconnect the intake air temp sensor and replace it with resistor there will be some perfomance gain, 'cause the ECU will think that cold air is coming to engine and will advance spark timings.
The question is - is this true? If yes, than what resistance resistor should be? What is gains and what is backdraws of this mod?
Thanks in advance!

) told you not to do it...i suggest the same. If you don't believe them just try it yourself and tell us the results...i'm sure most of us would be rather interested...

Because what the ECU see's should be CORRECT. Fooling the ECU into thinking the air temp is COLD will make changes that can lead to detonation. Detonation can be VERY DEADLY to your engine. Unlike piston engines that usually survive detonation a rotary is move sensitive to it.
It just isn't worth the 5hp they CLAIM which is probably bogus too.

i'm not trying to put you down or anything, just saying it's probably not the best idea...i think(not sure if i'm right on this though) what you would be doing, essentially, is preparing the engine for cold air. but then when it actually gets hot air instead of cold air KABOOM. now i'm also trying to bump this post cuz maybe someone can explain what will happen if you actually DO get cold air in there.(from a cold air box, or ram air intake or something to that effect) would this resistor thing work if it advance the timing and you induct cold air at the same time?
becouse that sensor is there for a reason. if you remove it or make it think its getting air that is colder and denser that it really is you are going to end up hurting your motor. it needs to know the air temp to calculate spark maps and even fuel to some degree. but hey like minclo said if you wouldnt want to listen to any of us find out for your self. but i have done that "they cant be right" went out did my own thing and had my car down for 5 months. so its ultimatlly up to you. good luck.

It affects mixture mostly. Doing that makes the car run even more rich. Our cars run rich enough without any help. This only makes metters worse. It does affect the timing, but only minimally.

Didn't know we even had an intake air temp sensor (stock)!
I know GMs do.. But I don't think we do.. Wheres the BS police when you need them?
