is this a good deal

hello, My names Mike. Im 16 and planning on buying a TII in about 5 or 6 months. My goal, is to have a reliable, fun car(my first). i would also like to get it down into the high- mid 12 second range. by this comming april, i will have about $3000 for the car, and some light mods/repairs. Once i get the car, i am going to change jobs (im walking to and from work this winter :/). So for now, im planning all my parts im going to put in the car, so i can set goals on how much i need to save. I know i'm prolly not going to get a 12sec car for $3000, im going to keep putting parts in the car as the money becomes available. What im thinking about getting is..

new turbo, somthing like this maybe?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2445508257

racing beat exhaust.

K&N intake.

bigger fuel injectors.

all new hoses, belts, break pads, and rubber.

let me know what you think. Im aiming for an S5. i'm also going to make my own plastics for the dash and doors, something that fits the car well. If you have anything to add, or have two cents, let me know. i look forward to working with you guys and gals. ive seen some of the other topics, and all i ask is, please keep this topic clean, thank you all for your help.

Reliable....12 seconds.....RX7.....

One of these things is not like the other. One of these things just isn't the same.

j/k

Best thing to do is go see it, compression test it, drive it hard, and test it to its limits. Also let the owner of the car drive it first, so you can view his driving habbits. When you go talk to him watch his word usage, if he constantly tells you how fast it is, i would be a little hesitant.

Lee said that to bump his post count don't mind him.Don't worry about turbos at the moment you have to plan on how your gonna pay for for the FC itself.Insurance, maintence and gas money lol....especially if you pump 94 octane and nothing less like I do.Also buying a $3,000 FC its gonna come with some problems and may need a rebuild.I paid $4,500 for my TII,it has problems and its a new J-Spec motor with about 35,000 miles on it and the tranny. If you want reliable dont get a TII get a N/A.More power = More problems.Good luck and welcome to the club!

Replacing the apex seals and engines seals would require a rebuild, which if your spending 3k on the car, plan to spend about 1k on the rebuild, thats if you do it yourself. Itll be even more for someone else to do it. You probably wont find a nice s5 for 3k unless the person doesnt know what they have. Like the other guy said though, go see it, look for rust, have a compression check done, just look at the general shape of the car, you can usually tell if someone has taken care of it or not.

My thoughts:

You would kill yourself in a 12-second car. I don't think you understand how fast this really is. Most people your age end up wrecking a stock 15-second TII because they can't handle the power, if that is any kind of reference.

You could probably find a driveable S5 TII for under $3,000 if you look long enough, but the new tires, brakes, hoses, etc., are going to cost another $1,000 or so. You will probably need to replace some parts ($500-2,000), and the engine will soon need a rebuild ($2,000). This isn't a problem if you understand the expenses in advance.

LeeTheSlacker is correct, that T3/T4 turbo is more for a Honda. You will need something larger like a 60-1, T04, etc. Basically, you are looking at about $6,000-8,000 for the engine, turbo, and fuel system upgrades. Lots of kits shown here:
http://66.216.67.51/subcat.asp?0=220

See this site for a list of modifications. Please notice how you need to upgrade the fuel system before upgrading the turbo and exhaust.

Mike,

I like your ambition, and I do agree with Evil. I started my 16 year old in an NA. Two accidents later I think he is ready for a street port with a few other mods. I say this only becasue I have had him thorugh a race school. I can't believe how much better (normal) he drives. Learned the respect thing quick.

I say buy your TII, and learn how to drive first. Then use the second link in evil's note and mod as you can afford and HANDLE!

thank you all for your posts . Yes, i know most 16/17 year olds shouldnt have a fast car. I'm not your average kid tho. I dont want this car to go show my honda buddys(if i had any lol). im not a showboater*. I have a lot of respect for the dangers of driving. I know where racing/speeding has its place, and where it doesnt. I plan on installing a 4 point roll cage, and go take lessons. from the basics to the advanced handeling skills. A friend of mine just got a 87 TII for $1900 with 30,000 on a full rebuild. I have the ability and tools to do all my own work, form breaks and oil changes to engine rebuild. The only thing holding me back is money. ill be saving just about every dollar i make for this car. if i can find one like my friend, ill hop on it and start with some repairs.

btw im sorry i said usless input. i tought you said somtihng like, your better off gettign a honda. lol mb

yeah, thats been said. i dont like people telling me crap like that, there ARE good deals out there, u just have to know what and where to look. i just want a fast daliy driver.

on another note, i think it friggen funny, how that when people repost somthing, and 50 people tell him its a repost, now, if someone says, "repost" and the guy under him says "repost". isnt all 30 of the jack asses that say repost under the first one reposting the word "repost"? man, people are stupid

nope

im going to get a TII. i dont Just want to drive it, i want to learn. see how everything works together. i know the limits of my driving ability. When i drive, i go the speen limit. when i change lanes, i turn on my blinker. i do what i can to make things easyer for me, and everyone else on the road. but, whenever i go to the track, i want that turbo. I want to know my car inside and out. So what this topic is about is, what should i do to the car, to make it faster and more reliable. not what car i should get. read my first post, im trying to figure out costs, so i can set goals.

Best wishes,
Mike

I would get a cheap NA(for daily driving). And then get a Turbo as a project car. That is what I am doing. I buy 87 GXL and Turbo II(need body work) for $1005. And I am only 18 but not have a job suck(no money). Welcome to the world of RX7's

theres no way im going to get a nice NA and TII for 3g. It's going to take some doing to even get a tII for that much. back to my question, IM GETTING A TII. I want to have a fast daily driver, WHAT ARE SOME PARTS THAT WILL SPEED THE CAR UP, THAT WONT FAIL IN 3 MONTHS. geez, i feel like im pulling teath on a 9 year old. i dont want advice on what car u think i should get, if i did, i would have asked. I dont want to be a ***, but i asked this question like 3 times, and im getting nothing but verbatim posts with the exception of a few. if you dont know anything about this subject, dont post.

Mike,

people are here to help - until the attitude rolls out. One suggestion - can the attitude. You will find a diverse set of individuals in here. We do this for many personal reasons, one being the love for rotaries.

All you have to say is, "while i appreciate your opinoin, I really do want to go TII, can you give me advise related to that model."

Good luck in your search!

best regards,

gadget

Hey, what the guys are all trying to say is you can get any thing you want but you have to get realistic about the money. I use my na for a daily driver about 60 miles a day. I dump at least 250 a month in gas and pre mix. My old TII only cost me about 100 a month in gas, but thats only cause it was down 3 out of every 4 weeks. Welcome to the world of rotary. Reliable, hell yes. You can rely on a TII to be out of commission at least 30% of the time. You need to put some serious thought into this buddy. A daily driver for a low income teen these aint. Your best bet is to start with an na and in a few years try for the TII. And really, drop the tude. Youre starting to live up to your screen name.

I sold my 88 TII for $2K about 2 years ago, and the current owner drives it daily with no problems.
