i know having a bad radiator,water pump,thermo,cap,hoses ect.,wil make the car run hotter,but lets say that your coolant seals in the engine are on the way out,lets say they are bad enough to burn off about 15 ounces of water every 3-4 weeks.would that make the car run hotter?it doesnt seem like a very small amount of water in the engine would make it run hot. anyone ?

well, there is a loss of coolant, which decreases the cooling capacity.

But more so this escaping coolant is pushed into the combustion chamber by the cooling system pressure. This loss in cooling system pressure lowers the boiling point of the coolant, causing the car to overheat.

 

see.i told you you knew 29820398 as much as me,that makes perfect sense,looks like im about to go down my check list of things that can make your rotary overheat,and start doing it all. i wish there was a sure fire way to know it was the engine seals before i bought a rad,thermo,cap and hoses,then water pump.if it was the seals id just sell it.im pretty sure its the rad though

 

You could pressure test the system for a loss of pressure when cold. Its not too difficult.

Have you checked for a clogged radiator?


I learned about the heating problem trying to diagnose an overheating under WOT load car. Coolant seals were fine, used a minute amount of coolant, rad, etc all checked out.
Turned out there was a leak at the hose going into the firewall, leaking into the cabin slightly. As soon as the revs went up, the loss of system pressure caused the car to raise in temp.
