Going tuning within the next week... Questions...

I will be tuning on the dyno within the next week. I've got some questions regarding what I should be aiming for, for a nice and reliable setup.

My setup is:
- Microtech Lt8
- S5 13bt Streetported
- T04b comp / stock hotside
- STOCK intercooler
- Walbro 255
- 550cc primary
- 700cc secondary
- 3in. exhaust w/ cat
- shitty SoCali 91 oct gas
- Blocked-off: all smog, BAC, OMP
- premixing

How much power I end up making is not a concern for me. My goal is not to push for more power, but to simply get the car running through the RPM's as smooth as possible and at the same time, keep the AF ratio and timing safe.

Having said that, I believe my using the STOCK intercooler is all the more reason I should keep timing really conservative. The question though, is where should I start at with timing...

As far as AF ratio, I was thinking of shooting for 10.6-10.8... How would that sound? Would the premix affect anything in terms of fueling the motor?

Your A/F numbers will defintely keep you in the safe area, as for timing I am not too sure of what people run. You could probably do a search on some of the forums for "timing" in the subject line and come up with some good posts.

The premix will not affect your A/F in any way so don't worry about that. If you want to read a post about it you can on my site, www.rx7turbo.com . Just go to Haltech list highlights in the How To area.

10.6 -10.8 is way too rich! You are just waisting gas and power that way.

How much boost are you tuning for?

There is only 91 in SoCali... But thanks for the replies so far!

Anyone have anything else on what I should do with timing?

Just play it conservative.

I'd say no more that 12* BTDC at 15 psi. Especially at your peak torque rpm.

premix lowers the octane rating. id suggest running a richer set up to compensate for the octane drop -alex

Not too sure about how much it really will make a difference. I had this conversation on the Haltech List and I pulled it off and put it on my site. Here is the reading, http://www.rx7turbo.com/premixhighlight.htm

10.8 is actually a GOOD number to shoot for. You will make power safely at this A/F provided that the timing is correct. Rotaries are perfectly happy running on the rich side as it only takes one good ping to crack a seal. I wouldn't say he's "wasting gas," sure he could get more out of the motor with a more aggressive A/F but some people like to tune conservatively for an added safety margin.

10.8 under boost would be good. Pay at the pump, or pay the supplier of rebuild parts. Your choice.

Hey be my guest, run high 10's.

I've been running 3 years now at mid 11's, and my timing is a lot more agressive than what I suggested (12 BTDC/15 psi/peak tourque)

There is safe, then there is power waisting safe...

Thanks for the replies again! I'm not sure where you're from, but I'm just shooting for such a low AF because I'm afraid of the bad gas that we get here in SoCali. That combined with the stock intercooler scares me...lol.
