I CANNOT get the transmission onto my engine! I replaced the clutch/throwout/pilot bearing and my friend and I got under the car and the trans simply refuses to fit on all the way. there is about an inch of space all the way around, and I'm at my wits end. I know the input shaft splines are "in" because if I spin the trans the clutch fan spins the same way, so the input shaft is hung up on the pilot bearing or something. anybody have a suggestion? I have done clutch jobs before and my friend works at a shop and we are both stumped after about 3 hours.
I should mention that the only ridiculous idea I can come up with to explain this is that there is a big blob of grease in the e-shaft and that may be forming a seal and not allowing the shaft to enter completely? does that even make sense?

I had this same prob on my Truck, the shaft that runs through the tranny had slid forward and so the tranny would sit flush on the motor. Couple of good wings with a rubber mallett and It went in.. DO NOT DO THIS unless the splines are 100% lined up.....

im assuming you used the clutch alighnment tool. other than that. when you pull the transmission out. the engine tilts foward. so you need to get something to push it back. like a peice of 2x4 between the engine and the front rad support or something

I had this problem, and I just rocked the tranny and motor until it slotted in. I had gotten it down to about an inch away and it just wouldn't go on, so I just rocked it and it slotted in.

This problem drove me nuts for a good 3 days...I had to take the crossmember off of the back off the transmission to get it to tilt up far enough to go in. After that I just pushed it up as high as I could in the back, rocked it around a little bit and it popped in.

I placed the jack under the front of my engine to tilt the engine back. I couldn't get mine in until I did that, and then slipped the driveshaft in and spun it back and forth while pushing the trans in (needed an extra set of hands).

OK, I got everything put back together. Tilting the engine back and wiggling the trans more violently really did the trick.
btw the clutch was an exedy stage 2 w/ an ACT Xact flywheel (11lbs) and all i can say is GODDAMN. awesome end to a long-*** project

^Sweet. I'm having the same problem with mine so this thread has helped me as well. Now I just have to see if I can do this with a broken hand.
BTW, I have the Exedy stage 1.

ya, I just wedged some wood between the cross-member and the front cover/oil pan to tilt the engine back, then used 2 jacks to get the trans all lined up. I have delrin mounts so I had to loosen them before I could get it to work. Just remember, the trans is hella tough, so dont be gentle with it! otherwise it'll never go in

^I had to loosen my motor mounts to get the tranny out because the tailshaft was hanging on the shifter cutout. It was literally being held in place by a thin piece of plastic, lol.

I did the same thing, only I put a piece of 2x4 between the oilpan and the jack. Took a 2 pairs of hands and a tranny jack about 15-20 minutes to get the sucker back on.
