Yes, a TII does 90 at 4000. 80 is at about 3500 RPM in 5th. NA's have a taller 5th gear. So 3K sounds about right.

I drove all the way home from Maine in 5th gear at 80 mph and 3000 rpm. So it sounds good to me.

What constitutes the ultimate g-friend?

A chic that can appreciate the RX-7 for what it is!

Way to go Champagne87!

Oh, topic at hand, 80 @ 3k rpm is correct for my 88 SE as of today's drive home from work.

Gas mileage is shitty at that speed too.

If you show 80mph at 3000rpm you've either got too small a tire on the rear or you've got some strange gearing. See this article at https://www.rx7club.com/vforums/show...threadid=34599 and I believe ACE and JERRY have the answer for turbos. In a 87N/A, I usually read something along the order of 3050rpm for 70mph. IF you reading something like 80mph at 3000 I suggest you've got some tires that are a touch smaller than what should be there. Just an opinion. Take it for what free opinions are worth. By the way. Your not going to be satisfied with the above answer, so may I suggest the following: Go to a interstate highway. You know that they have milage markers, one every mile. Stop at one. Set your odometer on Zero. Drive ten miles. Stop. I'm betting that you odometer reads greater than the number 10. An error probably in tire size but could be another thing.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html will tell you how a change in tire diameter will affect your speedometer.
