Glowing Cat and some questions about it

Hey Guys! Thanks for all those who helped me get my car started. My car failed to start after replacing a heater hose but now it starts and holds idle for a little while.

Alrighty so here is the story:

I got the car to start and it held idle at about 1100-1200 when it was cold. I kinda figured that was a little wierd because it usually holds idle at around 1900-2000 when it starts up cold. Then when the car warmed up it died. I started it again but it wouldn't maintain idle when the car was hot. So i put some throttle to the car but if i put to much the engine would mad hesitate, like for one Whole second, then if i would pulsate the throttle with my foot, it would eventually make a loud *POP* from the rear of the exaust. (I figure that was because of the broken, but not leaking since i filled it up with some sealant, vacuum line to the double throttle ddiaphram) But then I look under my car and my Catalytic Converter is Glowing. Ok, so... are those the symptoms of a Catalytic Converter Clog?

Any constructive input is welcomed thanks so much!

-Josh

yeah, I would say your cats are clogged something fierce which was probably why you had an exhaust leak. Drop the exhaust and gut your cats. MAKE SURE TO WAIT TIL IT COOLS DOWN!! When I gutted my cats, my car had been off for at least an hour and the cats were still too hot to hold until I was almost done gutting it. The rest of the exhaust can be almost cold and the cats still be quite warm. But just drop them out, pull everything off the cats and grab a crow bar or something of the sort and start pounding away. If that doesn't fix it, then take JW's advice and start searching.

actually now that you mention it, i did hear a suction sound from inside the car.. but it was to noisy from the outside, dang.. i wonder which one it is...

I also think i hear a clicking sound in the UIM...

Would a vacuum leak make the ECU throw an air temp sensor error?

you can do it with anything that will raise the RPM's when combused.

Sprary it around where you think the leak is, if the engine revs up alittle then thats your leak...

i know this is an old thread but it came up on the top 50 on my search and seemed relevent enough. sorry if this is thread jacking. i really dont feel like making another thread just to ask a question.

would a clogged cat cause a surging and low rpm (300-700rpm) idle?
