Question glasspacks?

so is it true that glasspacks dont last on a rotary? is there another alternative to glasspacks? anything similar to it or something that can be stuck into the pipes to quiet it down.

yah, glasspacks dont last long. If you running a midpipe (no cat) a good way to quiet it down is to run a small walker dynomax or flowmaster muffler as a midpipe. Makes a big difference, and doesnt hurt performance.

Glasspacks will melt pretty quick with the hot rx-7 exhuasts...

I was reading that the 3rd gen guys are using the borla XR-1 3" in - 3" out baffled mufflers are midpipes inplace of the cats to quiet thier straight exhuast cars down.

Mazdatix tests said that they measured Glasspack muffler life by min. or trips around the block. I take it they were not designed for rotaries. Hell, in a Summit catalog, Flowmaster had a little notice: "not intended for rotary motors". I have had a $20 Thrush Turbo muffler on my 1st gen. for about 2 months and I can slowly hear it getting louder.

Whatever the muffler is, just make sure (ASK!) that it's packed with steel wool, not fibreglass.

My TII came with them. They seem to muffel ok, but get a bit raspy at highway speeds / 4000 rpms.
