YO YO whats good folks. Just received the aluminum template. **** is thick.lmao
6mm to be exact.... You guys might ask why spend the money on that..I plan ahead a bit.So ill have use for that metal later on.. This metal template i will probably sand down a bit till a get the right size for the Glass roof..It already as is ';fits pretty nice with sufficient space for the Moon roof seal. But i like double checking things just to be sure.
Ill keep things updated... PEace

Ill be putting some time to it this weekend. Ill use a heavy grit sandpaper for the aluminum and get rid of machining imperfections,, due to my mistakes when i did the CAD file. Once i get the aluminum perfectly even. Ill use it to outline on some MDF wood. Then use that template and wear it down even more until there probably half an inch of gap all around.
I also have a sample seal coming in from California in a bout a week or so.
So far everything is going smoothly
In between waiting times.. I managed to cad out the tail light seals. And will make a mold for them.
Its possible to create nice rubber gaskets.

Well, my idea is more simplistic than what I have been reading here (I did not say more "right").
Often manufactures will use the same suppliers for parts or even left over in house surplus E.G. Turbo TII ABS pump is the same as 929. So although the design of the car is unique the application of parts may have made for some universal parts applications (IE it’s cheaper to use what’s already there)... This means there is potential that another car may have the same sunroof dimensions as the rx7. In any event I have been passively checking the junkyard for sunroof similarities of the same era vehicles...

Jan Update
Finally got my car issues solved. hehe
Heres whats going on... The project is on hold for a bit. I need to raise some funds so that i can continue on. Last month i got jumped in an alley way by a fat man in a red suit and his gang of midgets;; goes by the name of Santa.
Holding that to the side for now. But i am doing something smaller in the meantime.
I got a mold set made to make the tail light seal....
If any of you guys have any door handles you guys might throw out; particular if they are already broken.. let me know and ill paypal the shipping.
I have 4 stainless steel handles that were water jet cut. Only thing i gotta do for em is get a set of legs done for them... for the door latch mechanism.. So ill be talking to a welder about that soon.....
LET ME KNOW!!! on the handles. I get enough people on i might do a service for them were i would need your handle handle as a core.

AS with everything else there will be 20 people that will say they want one and you MIGHT sell 3 sunroofs from all that time and money.
As for the door handles.. Kinda a tough sell too, these cars are being parted out constantly and there is a fairly regular supply of handles, they would have to be pretty cheap for anyone to pay to have thiers reworked..
Cool that you are playing around with fabing some stuff.. I have done a lot of that for the rx7 over time.. Fun stuff.

I hate our handles, they never want to work. Last winter they became frozen inside and it bent my key, then I had to bend it back inside the handle and get into my car from the hatch. Not fun. And now I can't get my doors to lock from the outside.

General talk
Its really up to me to finding a welder who is willing to weld the arms onto the handles. The handle itself i can get a large amount for a good price as i already cnc it. Stainless steel. So it will be something that will last.
I understand the factor of money coming into play. As most of us already have stuff to deal with. "Engines blown, this and that. I dont plan on being a fiend to make crazy money like some do. My objective is to provide a fix to a common problem. Which in my opinion should have been dealt with a long time ago.. Cuz i sure looked like a fool a few days ago going in through the trunk to open the door.

Handles
The handle itself along with the legs are going to be stainless steel... so its a replacement of the handles. So the handle base will remain the same and the old ones will get cut out.
the Oem handles are wack pot metal of some sort.

Minor update
I actually managed to get a hold of a glass pacific moon roof up in Orlando should be getting it today. This way i have a little more precise measurements. Ill probably start calling around and see if i can find a glass foundry or glass bending business.
Its going to take time but hopefully this is something that can be done.

Hopefully who knows what i can find out.
It doesnt necessarily have to be tempered glass ; laminate should be ok.
Big glass companies are the ones that charge big $$
But like i said hopefully with a little luck.
