Exclamation Give me an opinion.....

Ok my situation here: I spotted an white 86 base model. I can get it for 800 dollars including Taxes, Title, and license. It has minor rust, minor damage to the rear bumper, one broken window, old steering wheel, and needs minor work on the interior.

Would you buy it?

Base? No. Too much hassle to swap out the 14" wheels. Plus it sounds like a lot of other picky work, too. Even with a good motor, unless you have a lot of spare time and money, I would pass on it.

Ok I have the window to put in it. Don't need the interior at all. My Sport has more rust than this one so by minor I mean tiny little rust. I can buy a wheel wrap for it or swap out my spare. and my car has more damage than this one.

I also have the parts to make it a 6-lug if I wanted to. I probably wont though.

If RX-7s are hard to come by in your area, then I would say get it. If you can find better at a decent price, then get one with some options or one that is in better shape.

This car looks good so me. It has minor problems that I can fix myself and I have the parts to do it anyway so I will be effectively using my parts car. This is one of 3 7's sold in my town in the last year the other two I own.

800? I really doubt it. I would go for about 3-500.

What do you mean "why so little"? Why so much?

It's a friggen 18 year old car for one, and for 2 it is a basemodel. Most of the time if it's for sale, nobody knows what it is, or that there is any interest in that specific type of car. Look around at the market for other japanese cars from 86-87. Not exactly bringing in the dough are they? No reason you should tip your hand that this car is special either.

I can pick up base models all day long for $200-500. Running, driving ones at that (with a couple hours work).

Im considering buying a running 90 GXL for $500, and a nice 91 nonturbo with a locked motor for a hair more. I just bought a 91 nonturbo with light front end damage for $200. The only way I give more than $500 for a 2gen is if it is a turbo II or an 89-91, and pretty nice at that. Course, I dont usually buy them to keep for myself either...most of the time theyre either a partscar, or an investment to repair and resell.

I mean, if you really want the car, for your personal use, then go and buy it. But personally, I like to hold out for a lower price. I mean, around here anyway, nobody knows wtf these cars are, and they dont really care. Its a 13-18 year old import with one of them damn rotary motors, enough said, they dont want to work on it, touch it, or even look at it in their yard anymore...a few days of waiting it out will usually yeild a callback to accept my offer of $2-500.

The price includes taxes, fees, and a new tittle. That would cost me about 140-160 dollars. So if I bought it from a privat party it would be about a 650 dollar price.

Santiago

EDIT: this is from a dealer they came down from 1k dollars. It is for personal use and not a parts car it just needs a good tune-up and it will be fine. Tommorow I will do a compression test. what are good numbers?

There is also a slight possiblity that I could bet it for 700 but that is not 100% so I am guessing 800 will be the ticket.

"Fair" condition means that the vehicle probably has some mechanical or cosmetic defects, but is still in safe running condition. The paint, body and/or interior need work to be performed by a professional in order to be sold. The tires need to be replaced. There may be some repairable rust damage. The value of cars in this category may vary widely. A clean title history is assumed. Even after significant reconditioning this vehicle may not qualify for the Blue Book Suggested Retail value.

lol well it really comes down to if you want it or not. 650 for the car itself? thats not a huge investment that you're going to look back on and regret, is it? if you think it's worth it then it is. it's certainly not a rip-off though.

Stop asking for advice if you are just going to ask for different advice. If you want the car and can afford to buy it and own it, then buy it.

Santiago, you are convincing yourself to buy it. Make them an offer of $500 (tax, tag & title) then walk away. Or, wait for the next one.
