Girlfriend's Handiwork (Digital Dash Install)
Here is a nice Christmas present from my girlfriend. I bought the digital dash (Racepak Ultra Dash) and she did the install. Not too shabby for a girl...

Is this for a street car? Is it backlit?
I've had very mixed experiences with digital dashes (old 300ZX = yuck, Insight = yay), and very bad experience with LCD dashes.

Feel free to delete their comments, but don't ditch the thread because of the low brow comments.
Again, I bought the dash, she did the install.
The dash is backlit and engineered for the street so I'm not anticipating any problems . It will hopefully work fine as it is set very deep into the dash which should keep it out of sun pretty well.
It comes with an external shift light setup, radiator fan control, and an external warning light setup.
There are a large number of racing digital dashes out there- Motec, Stack, etc. Just about every GT racing car has one. These are a bit different in what you'd find in an old 300ZX, or any OEM app for that matter.
More to come on the rest of the goodies in this car over the following months as this is only the tip of the iceberg...

Also, how does that thing detect speed? Does the cable go into the back of it?

It needs an electronic speedo input- it is pretty easy to add a reluctor setup to the driveshaft. I'm pretty certain the Racepak site goes over this.
The interior is in a number of pieces, in my basement, so it'll be installed sometime over the next couple of months.
I'll try to get a few more pics in better light.
I got it from Summit Racing.

You'll find that without the angled clear plastic cover fitted over the stock gauges, light reflections will be far more noticable. Just a warning...

I expect that before long most cars will have flat panel displays.
My hope is we can re-skin them like winamp.
Then you could select any view from idiot lights to full gauges with histograms.

I may add a plastic piece in front, if necessary. The stock piece is glued in place to the gauge cluster and I had to break it to get it off, but attaching a new plastic piece in front will be no trouble.
There will be no action on this for at least a month- I'm away for work and I have suspension/brake/engine work/body work to take care of.

Do you have a PDF of the general install / wiring instruction?
