Girlfriend's Handiwork (Digital Dash Install)

1 Attachment(s)
Here is a nice Christmas present from my girlfriend. I bought the digital dash (Racepak Ultra Dash) and she did the install. Not too shabby for a girl...

I haven't even seen this thing before! Bad ass man! You should definatly do anything she wants for at least a week for giving that gift.

I just looked these things up. They go for $600 (base model) to $1400!!! Man she must love you man.

Is this for a street car? Is it backlit?

I've had very mixed experiences with digital dashes (old 300ZX = yuck, Insight = yay), and very bad experience with LCD dashes.

Moronic and sexual comments deleted. Grow up, children.

:rlaugh: you crack me up! Anyways I think he said he bought it but his girlfriend did the install so he paid the bucks and she gave it the looks :) Very cool though I would love to see some pics when it's finnished!

Feel free to delete their comments, but don't ditch the thread because of the low brow comments.

Again, I bought the dash, she did the install.

The dash is backlit and engineered for the street so I'm not anticipating any problems . It will hopefully work fine as it is set very deep into the dash which should keep it out of sun pretty well.
It comes with an external shift light setup, radiator fan control, and an external warning light setup.

There are a large number of racing digital dashes out there- Motec, Stack, etc. Just about every GT racing car has one. These are a bit different in what you'd find in an old 300ZX, or any OEM app for that matter.

More to come on the rest of the goodies in this car over the following months as this is only the tip of the iceberg...

nice let us know how it works

RxBen, I'd love to see (after)pics of the install. Too bad the thread only shows the dash assembly. If ya want, PM me with the pics.

Very nicely done--hats off to your girlfriend, she did a good job.

Do update us on how it looks and works once installed.

:werd:

Also, how does that thing detect speed? Does the cable go into the back of it?

StinkyTurbo 12-28-04 05:44 PM

where did you buy that at??
i wouldnt mind having one of those.

felixwankel88 12-28-04 06:00 PM

yeah, i would like to see pics when installed too

Jager 12-28-04 06:03 PM

Your girlfriend seems pretty damned cool. I hope it works out in the end (can't wait for pictures and the such).

RX-Ben 12-28-04 06:08 PM

It needs an electronic speedo input- it is pretty easy to add a reluctor setup to the driveshaft. I'm pretty certain the Racepak site goes over this.

The interior is in a number of pieces, in my basement, so it'll be installed sometime over the next couple of months.

I'll try to get a few more pics in better light.

I got it from Summit Racing.

NZConvertible 12-28-04 08:02 PM

You'll find that without the angled clear plastic cover fitted over the stock gauges, light reflections will be far more noticable. Just a warning...

RX7FROMCAL 12-28-04 08:51 PM

looks awesome man , post pics when ya can.

Parastie 12-28-04 08:57 PM

Damn that thing is expensive!!

rotarygod 12-28-04 09:23 PM

Summit Racing sells it for $695.95

Wankel7 12-28-04 11:16 PM

Well damnit man....give that bitch some 12V and lets see some action!

Kenteth 12-29-04 12:05 AM

i agree, go pull the battery out of your car to hook it up and take some snaps...

SureShot 12-29-04 08:46 AM

I expect that before long most cars will have flat panel displays.
My hope is we can re-skin them like winamp.
Then you could select any view from idiot lights to full gauges with histograms.

RX-Ben 12-29-04 09:22 AM

I may add a plastic piece in front, if necessary. The stock piece is glued in place to the gauge cluster and I had to break it to get it off, but attaching a new plastic piece in front will be no trouble.

There will be no action on this for at least a month- I'm away for work and I have suspension/brake/engine work/body work to take care of.
