I'm sure you'll see about 2hp. V belts do have a fair amount of drag, but to be able to measure it as a percentage of say 164hp on a chassis dyno would be tough. Since Gilmer belts don't have to be very tight to transfer the power in theory your alternator and water pump bearings will last longer.

You would see most of the hp increase from not driving the power steering if you have PS, that is.

Although if you got creative I'm sure you could make the PS work. Speedway Motors has Gilmer type pulleys that could be adapted.

Well I already have powersteering disconnected so I'm sure the gains would be small. How much of a pain in the butt would it be to install these and take them off every 2 years when the air pump has to go on for emissions?

The crank pulley and water pump pulley are easy to change with normal hand tools. The alternator pulley is easy if you own an impact wrench.

sorry to hijack the thread, but this may help others too...
when you underdrive the car, this will obviously cause the alt to pump lower amps....but if you were to get an FD alt, would you get enough amps to succesfuly power the car with the underdrive pulleys?

When you pull the crank pulley off isnt there something you have to be careful about or a special procedure you have to do.

No, that's only if you're taking out the eccentric shaft bolt, which is in the middle of the pulley. To just remove the pulley, you do not remove that bolt; remove only the bolts around the circumference.

That kit looks much better than the mazdaracing one. This isn't a HP upgrade folks, this is for engine dressup, and its a nice accessorie. Im defenitly interested, but the website doesn't work right now..

So besides the lack of belt slippage, this kit is just for dress up??? I'd rather spend 4 hours chiseling sound deading material from underneath my carpet. But thats just my opinion.

It does look clean, but maybe if the kit was around $100, it would be more appealing to me.

Yea its a bling thing, and yes it prevents slippage. Someone wouldn't buy it for that though, thats just retarded, thats what dual alt belt pulleys are for.
Again, this is just a bling thing, I'd drop the $.

if i had more money than i knew what to do with i would buy the kit.

also to note, this pulley has no timing marks. my suggestion if you plan on installing one is to set up the red mark on the pointer then remove the stock pully not disturbing the eccentric shaft, install the new pulley and mark it where it sits on the pointer.

Yah, no timing marks is NOT helpful... I had to make some of my own marks on the RB because it had ones just every 10º, more helpful than nothing, but still annoying.

I've actually been more interested in a 6-rib pulley/belt system personally.

It's made by "Mazda Racing" or something.

I'm pretty sure you've seen this before, because I think you sent me a link on AIM to it once talking about possibly getting it
