Getting my 87 t2 running after sitting 15+ years
I finally felt guilty enough and pulled the cover off of my t2. It's been sitting in the corner of my shop for 15+ years. Even with the cover on the engine bay is covered in a pretty thick layer of dust. I also confirmed the fuel has turned to poop and the bottom 1/2 of my fuel tank is rust. The fuel pump and module have also been ruined. What's crazy it's the plastic and rubber have melted off the pump and ended up on the bottom of the tank.
i guess my plan is to drain and pull the tank. Figure out the module and new pump. Prolly get some fresh oil and coolant in her. It's been so long I cannot remember what had been done to the car. It's got a bov, hks filter, some type of exhaust and it's sitting in on some old school coilovers and borbet wheels. Lol. I'll get some pics of it tomorrow. Any other advice? Worth popping the plugs out and shooting some atf in there?

I recently started my TII after several years sitting. I changed all of the fluids and filters. I also changed the belts, plugs, and plug wires. Basically any engine consumable got changed. I did squirt a little bit of ATF in each rotor chamber. It started on me pretty much the first time I tried, but then stalled and flooded. Got it going strong the very next day.
It sounds like you are on the right path. Your biggest issue will be the tank. I replaced mine, but that's because I got a killer deal on a brand new one that was fairly local to me.

You have a good plan ahead of you. As other have mentioned, you will have to pull the injectors for service, and replace the plugs, wires, belts, vacuum lines, filters, tires, all fluids etc. It will take a little time and money but the end result will be worth the effort put into the car. Do you have any pictures of the car to share?
