Getting Fuel?

I purchased an 88 RX7 several weeks ago. When I picked it up, it would not start. At first I figured that it was flooded. After trying to unflood it, it still will not start. I cannot even smell fuel under the hood.

When you turn the key to the "on" position, should I be hearing the fuel pump? Is there a fuse for it? And where is it even located?

Any help with this would be appreciated.

The fuel pump doesn’t run with the ignition on until you actually start the car. You need to jumper the yellow test connector beside the RHS shock tower in the engine bay, then it’ll run without the engine running, and if it’s going you’ll hear it clearly. DO NOT forget to remove the jumper wire before driving the car. The fuel pump fuse is in the fuse block by the driver’s foot.

Getting Fuel

The car has never ran since I bought it... I was just assuming that it wasnt getting fuel. Does anyone have any other ideas what I might be looking at? It cranks over fine, just doesnt start. The only other thing, is that the alternator belt is off of it, and the smog pump is locked up. Could this be my problem?

The fuel pump is located in the gas tank, kind of behind the driver's seat. However, I would not be in any hurry to start that car. With no alternator belt and a locked up smog pump, there is nothing to turn the water pump, which means even with a full radiator of cold water it will overheat in a flash and blow the engine. Just my opinion. Good luck!

you have to unflood it by pressing the gas pedal all the way while you crank it. mine took like 5 minutes doing this and it finally turned over

There is a fuse that will prevent it from working. Its the fuse box near the drivers left ankle. Either the third or fourth row from the bottom. Check them all while your there. Also check the fuses in the engine compartment. Black rectangular box near the front shock strut tower. We just know your gonna fix those other items before running the car for more than a brief moment. You just wanna see if the darn thing has any life I reckon prior to dumping dough into it.

What exactly did you do to "unflood" it?
