Gears Grinding?
Hellish screeching noise comes from the rear of the car sometimes if I over-rev at all when pushing into gear. Is this my transmission grinding? Something squeezing against a trapped animal? What's this noise, and how long until it cuts into my budget? It's an 89 GTU, so I'm thinking that it could be the weak drivetrain?

The NA drivetrain is sufficient for NA power. It could be a couple things, your clutch could not be properly disengaging causing you to grind. That would be a bad throwout bearing. Or it could be as simple as it just being your fault, like you missed the gear when shifting.

is there a semi-high piched whining noise at idle when in neutral? if so, does that sound go away when you push in the clutch? if so, throwout bearing is the culprit.

There's no whining noise when in neutral that I've noticed, I'll listen more closely though next time I drive. And I'm not missing gears
I'm planning on taking the car to a mazda specialist sometime soon to get my smog problem checked out, I'll ask them to take a look at that while they're at it. Anyone have any experience with rotorsport (http://www.rotorsport2.com/)?
