Gear wind...

Ok, just want to make sure this is normal or something I should worry about...

When the engine is cold and in neutral with the clutch out, there is a buzzing noise... no, not like a BEEP, but a humm I guess you could say... and when I put the clutch in it winds down and stops. Also, it does NOT make the humming noise when it's relatively cold while going 2-5mph or so. It also does this when going in reverse, still cold.

When the engine is hot, it doesn't do this...

CHange your tranny oil. Or check your level at least. The noise is probably because the oil is cool when you start it up and once it warms up it coats better or something. :-/

actually... I did check the fluid... been about a week or so so I'll check again -- but that COULD be what's leaking out of the bottom of the car.. very small leak though, so whenever I take it down to TX I'll have him look at it and see what can be done.

Throwout bearing! If it bothers you drop the tranny and replace it. If it isn't that loud and you can deal with it, then do that too.

i agree with the throwout bearing problem. its no biggy, its just a whining noise. you could buy a bearing for what, 30 something dollars? oh, yeah, you have to drop the tranny for that. why bother? just wait til you're replacing your clutch or something similar.

ah crap! What exactly does it effect, and what is it's function? If it's only the noise, I don't mind, but what would cause something like this to go out? It's a rebuilt tranny!
