Gauges: what do you guys think?

So I'm going to be going with several aftermarket gauges, but I want to maintain a semi-stock looking interior. Here's my problem: I think that 52mm is JUST right as far as gauge size goes, however, the gauges I've found are either 46mm or 60mm. Which size do you think would give the car a more stock look? These will probably be mounting in an Apillar or the HVAC vents above the logicon. Lemme know what you guys think!

Steve

P.S. No "just get 52mm gauge" comments please. =P

If i were you, i would definitely go with a 60mm gauge. They are extremely nice to look at and easy to read. they do not make a 60mm A pillar pod for the FC, so you will need to buy one for another car, and pull out the heat gun.

The downside: the 60mm gauges can be expensive.

Have fun

It's not going to look stock with the a pillar guages anyways partner... It is going to look hella nice though. Def. 60mm for the visibility.

Hey Steve,

Are you getting the old school HKS gauges? Rishie has a pair of them and they look sick. Matched perfectly with the stock gauges. I'm considering buying a pair now.

Just buy a twin 52mm autometer gauge pod! you can file it to fit a 60mm gauge it's super easy and looks like it was made for it.

Tec,

Ive got a dual 52mm pod, and I really don't see any way at all to fit 60mm gauges in there. even whipping out the dremel tool, there just doesn't seem like there's space to make it work. I had to trim the pod a little even for my Greddy 52mm gauges.

I ordered one of the gauge panels silverrotor is talking about, it's awesome. fits perfectly into my S5 car.

I've put an Apexi 60mm boost gauge into the standard Autometer '86-88 dual gauge pod with no problems - just needs a little Dremel work, that's all. It's REAL easy to do and will fit just fine.

BTW, the Greddy silver face gauges light up amber at night. Personally, I don't get the big deal of having your gauges match the stock cluster - just as long as they look good and are easy to read, you're golden.

I just did it for a MR2 owner! 60mm egt gauge, don't use a dremel!! just file around the edge. Flip the gauge over on the pod, and trace around the bezel! make sure you leave 1\16 of an inch. I guess it's only $15 buck if you screw up.

Personally, 52mm (roughly 2") is too small for me, 3 do fit nicely in a DIN sized package, but racing I want the boogers as big as possible.

Stock look, probably smaller, but driveability, the bigger the better.

Get digital 52mm guages. No problem reading those.

My first set of gauges were 52mm Autometer's in the dual A pillar pod. They were fine, but I wanted something a little more accurate with datalogging, so I went with Apexi EL II 60mm electric gauges. I got the boost gauge along with the control box from UPS today. It's going in my front space with my Autometer A/F still in the other spot and I'll take some pics to show the comparison between the two.

My recommendation, get the best gauges you can afford. I got the Autometers at first because that's all I could afford. Now, I've got a few more bucks in the wallet, so I went with a better gauge.

Run 60mm (~2-5/8") gauges for the IMPORTANT stuff or if you can fit them all in front.&nbsp I run 60mm boost and EGT gauges in my '87 Turbo II.&nbsp I run 2-1/16" oil temp, oil pressure, voltage, water temp, fuel pressure as "secondary" gauges.

You can use a 2-5/8" I(1979-1993) Mustang Autometer pod to fit these 60mm gauges - use doubles-sided foam adhesive tape to get the gauges to sit nicely inside.&nbsp If you're a stickler for details, the pods are not perfect but can be ground down slightly for better A-piller fitment.

I do NOT like running digital gauges with the exception for a voltmeter.&nbsp The needle/analog read-out from your typical analog gauge is a lot easier for the brain to process under pressure - this is a big plus when you're racing.
