Gauge placement....where are yours at?

Alright. I am sick of my inaccurate stock gauges in my S4.

So, I am getting a new WT and OP gauge to install in my car. I don't have any serious mods, but I like to know what my car is doing so I can hopefully prevent any damage before it happens (part failures, etc)

I have looked at some A-pillar dual pod setups and seen some "dummy light" replacement pieces as well.

How about some pics/advice from the experts here....where did you put your gauges and why....

Also, tell me where you bought your stuff from....so I can shop it out too.

I'm no expert so I don't know if I qualify to answer but I'm PLANNING to put my gauges (have them in, will install this weekend I think) in the autometer A-pillar dual pod I bought. It "snaps" into place instead of using adhesive, and that's why I chose it. Two gauges will go there, and I have an aftermarket radio (half height instead of the full height) and plan to use the blank space to put two or three others when / as I get them in. I don't know where I'll put the SAFC-II yet but I plan to permanently mount it somewhere it looks almost factory and somewhere I can keep it covered but easily accessible to the driver. I've seen a few installations put it in place of the ashtray (and covered by the stock ashtray cover) so I might investigate that mounting point. As it all is slated to go in this weekend I don't have pics yet but I just wanted to give my $0.02.

BTW, as for non-ebay prices, some of the best I've seen were at rx7store.net, on everything except the A-pillar which might have been $1-2 more than some other places but I got it at the same time to save on shipping. I'm not the biggest fan of eBay stuff but I have been known to buy occasionally from them.

Peace...

I have 2 60mm greddy's in a pillar pod. 1 60mm greddy mounted mickey mouse ear style on the gauge cluster. One 52mm in the blank panel under the radio. My greddy boost controller and turbo timer are next to it. I have 3more gauges that i plan to put in place of the idiot lights. I haven't done that yet.

I personally am a fan of the Hood-mount guages... but I also like using the extra space that would otherwise be blank, such as the extra space around the radio, in the ashtray if you don't use it (just get a piece of sheetmetal and bend it to fit the size of the ashtray cover and possible screw it to the inside of the panel... and fit your guage in the metal.}. All sorts of things, depending on what parts of the car must remain functional, and how visible the guages need to be at all times. You can even do a row of guages above the cluster, perhaps one or two above the idiot light thing.
Pillar pods are good, but I prefer to keep them lower on the dash. Ahh... the good ol' days of the column-mount and hood-mount tachometers.
