You will run rich, since the same air flow will now give a larger flow signal to the ECU.
The only way to really loose the AFM restriction is to remove it & go with a freestanding ECU.
EG: a Microtech.

As long as you don't hit the end of the stroke on the AFM door (or plunger)

Is there any means of monitoring this? I suppose there is a set voltage range the signal goes through right? All you need is a volt guage setup to that signal and see if you ever top it out.

Santiago

SO what, is my idea good or not?

If you want quicker throttle response remove the extra throttle plates in your throttle body, don't screw with the AFM.

Yeah just put it back. The air flow meter door is full open by about 6500 rpm or so anyways. It can't go any farther.

Put a meter on pin 2E of a series four car. Turn the key to ON. Push the flap all the way in. Note the output on 2E. Now go for a drive. Pedal to the floor in the gear of your choice. Note the output from pin 2E. Now you should know if the flap opens all the way and at what rpm etc.

2E, on a series four, is on the ECU. It's the middle plug on the ECU. You look at the connector while its connected from the wire side. You count from the right to the left in a up, down, up , down fahion. Like 2A(ref voltage) is on the top row, far right on that middle plug. The wire just below is 2B(pressure sensor), the second wire on the top row counting from the right is 2C(ground), the one just below is 2D(02 sensor), and the third wire on the top counting from the right to the left is 2E (air flow meter).

Its in the 87FSM in the Control Unit section . FSM's are free and online at various sites.
