Arrow is this gasket blown?(exhaust manifold)

where its circled it's leaking. can i just adjust the gasket on the manifold or is it blown? its right on the corner where the gasket does NOT overlap itself.

doesn't look blown to me, it looks rotted out from age, i would suggest replacing it just for peace of mind. when the gaskets blow out they will do it near the center holes in the gasket, not the outer edge.

horrible pic btw.

lol, funny you should say that. its actually a pic i copied from mazdatrix web site and blown it up just a little to much. this is actually not my gasket, just a refrence.so if it was leaking form that corner its not blown? might be a stupid Q but hey ya never know.i was hoping i can slide it down a little so that corner would seal???

if it is leaking there and the gasket is in one piece and the studs are not broken then i would say your manifold is warped or cracked.

that depends on how thick the flange is and what material it is made out of, run a straightedge across the face of the flange to see if it is actually warped as i am just speculating.

i believe the manifold isnt cracked. i inspected it before i installed it and didnt see any. its sounds like an old v8 with a exhaust leak. pretty massive leak. and its surley coming from that cormer of the seal. i just can see how a crack could cause it to leak in that spot but you guys know more about this stuff than i do.

I bet your actual exhaust leak is down stream from here.

If the engine to manifold flange is warped you can send it to a machine shop and have them take a few thoudandths off. probably cost 30-40 bucks. call around to find the best price. Another thing you might want to do is make sure you have nice nuts (i said nuts...lol)and washers to keep them from backing off. Using old nuts and bolts in an area where there is a lot of heating and cooling (expanding/contracting) can make the bolts loosen up creating an leak. I have found that the Nissan dealership sells great "locking" type nuts for there exhaust manifolds... perfect for shuch applications. just have the parts guy bring out some samples and mach them up
