Question Gas? What Octane Is Best?

I know that there are other threads on this but I thought that I would start a fresh one. Which octane would you recommend ( I am sure that 93 is best, but is it necessary)? My car is "Non Turbo". I started using 89, but thought that I would check with the experts. Thanks for all your help.

My car runs great on the cheap stuff,87 octane i think is what I use. no problems, good power, no knocking and it is somewhat cheaper that 89 or 91. here in texas gas is now 219 a gallon for 87 regular unleaded at the station I use.
89 and 91 are 229 and 239 a gal.

Hell

87 octane was $2.43 a gallon here a couple days ago.....came down to $2.39 yesterday

I also run the 87 octane and my NA runs perfect. I have tried running 89 and 93 octane and haven't noticed any improvements. Maybe 1 mpg better mileage, but that is a guess. No noticable power gains or anything. Spend the extra money on a quality oil filter and run cheap gas. Better oil pressure means more to me than more expensive fuel.

you will not gain ANY power or mpg with a higher octane fuel, the car is tuned for use w/ 87 octane, if you use a higher octane (thus increasing the tempurature at which it detonates) the car will start to retard timing, So...you LOSE power using a higher octane fuel in a n/a engine, unless it was specifically tuned for it. Cars with boost need the higher octane to keep from detonating.

So unless you're boosted, stick with 87.

Low octane (86,87, etc.) on NA, higher (89+) on turbo.

Spent a lot of time on a dyno with an IT car and EProd car. 87 for both, no power gains with higher stuff. If I remember we used it in a GT3 car a long time ago too.
