Change oil and filter, run it a short time and change oil again.

ohhhhhh snap...... that's typically a sign that one of the oil seals has blown.

Care to elaborate? It is a fact that gas in the oil is a sign of failing oil seals. It might not be in this case since it was recently flooded, but that doesn't mean its wrong advice.

Just because you have gas in the oil doesn't mean the seals are bad. I have flooded 7's which caused this condition, running pig rich will do it, leaky injectors can lead to it. Many things.

My new rebuild, running pig rich, did this. Doesn't mean the oil seals are bad.

In fact, for the first year after my rebuild I had leaky injector seals. Every oil change looked like premix. All is fine now.

Besides, his first statement was..."flooded the other day"

Don't make the kid think he needs a rebuild just because of something silly like gas in the oil.

I have owned two RX7 over the past 12 years and think they are the best car on the planet in the way of relability. Don't panic over little stuff and you will be fine with your RX, two very important thing to remember about a rotory is not to shut them off before they have warmed to operating temp or they will be flooded the next time you go to start them, and never run them hard till they are at operating time.

Your oil came out bright blue? I want your motor.

Bad oil control seals are easy enough to check. Just rev the motor to 7000 in neutral and hold it for about 10-15 seconds. If your exhaust starts smoking, the seals are on their way out. Otherwise, you just flooded it. Those control rings hold oil back just fine, but liquid gas goes right by them.
