gas in oil = :(

ok, so I checked my oil today and I noticed I had way too much... it's probably about an inch above the Full line on the dipstick and smells like gas. So I assume a metric crapload of gas is somehow getting into my oil...

how can this happen? is one of my side seals gone? the engine still runs fine.

I recently installed 1680cc secondaries and they're just very very roughly tuned, but I don't think the ocassional stage at between 9-10:1 would make this much gas get into the oil...

I'll try and do a compression test later today, but I did one fairly recently and it was about 110 on all faces... the engine has about 10k on it.

I changed the oil probably 250 miles ago (definitely less than 500) so this happened in a relatively short amount of time.

Thanks guys.

Also before anyone asks, status of the PCV system:

I have the lower nipple of the oil filler neck going to a mini-breather tank, and the top nipple is capped off.

One possiblity:

What is the status of you OMP?

Removing your OMP or changing the OMP to inject premix oil yields a known side effect of gas in the oil. Happens more quickly when you are running really rich.

my OMP is blocked off and I'm running premix... but still that's like a quart or 2 of gas in 250 miles... that's ridiculous.

You will find some fuel in the oil of most engines. Just because it smells like fuel doesn't mean there is an unusual amout of fuel mixed in with the oil. Maybe the oil got overfilled at some point. The only way to be sure is to send a sample of the oil to a lab such as Blackstone Labs (http://www.blackstone-labs.com/) for anaylsis. It costs like $20 plus, takes a few days for a report, but it may save you money and a bunch of unnecessary work.

Get the thing tuned how it should be and see if the problem keeps happening. Mine did the same thing and it ended up being a side seal. Good luck!

blow-by

When my engine was flooding a lot I ended up with tainted oil, it's normal to an extent as said above.

With that large of secondaries, you guys think it's possible theirs a lot of unburnt fuel?

btw I still had a OMP, and I'm sure I could _see_ some gas on the dipstick even, do a good oil change and should be fine.

It is very common to have gas in your oil if you flood your engine a couple times. Sounds like you are running to rich anyway.

Sorry if I was unclear, it's only 9-10:1 when I stage (the secondaries turn on), then it flattens back out around 12.5:1.

I'm about to change the oil and do a compression test, so we'll see what happens. If that shows up fine, I'll try to just not stage for a while and see if it's still bad running fairly normal AFRs

hondahater: you just made me really worried

that is insanely rich during transition. the AFR should hardly change at all. I'm sure black smoke is coming out the back. I don't know if that's resulting in gas in the oil though...

Has it flooded recently? That will add fuel to the oil for sure
