Did you just drain your tank or did you drain it and drop it? I think you should really drop the tank and clean it if you havent already.

i have actually seen that before. thats what happens when water settles on the bottom of the tank and rusts away at the factory "rust proof" coating.

Same thing happened to me when I bought my 87. It was a whole $75 from my local junkyard for a tank in excellent condition plus the fuel pump and assembly.

If you rinse it out it should be fine, mine had rust on the bottom also, get all the loose **** off. The gas dosent slosh too much and you got 2 filters before it hits your injectors.

Mine sloshes like crazy.
You must drive like my mother..

BTW a regular monthly shot of injector cleaner or gas treatment additive will adsorb any water condensate & clean it out.

I was just going to drain my tank but after sitting 5 years or so I thought it would be more prudent to remove it and clean it out.

It was FULL of rust (from the anti-slosh guard around the pickup) with about 3/4 inch of brown goo that was dog poo look and feel. Disgusting!

Powerwashing wasn't enough so I bought some MEK from a paint store to attempt to dissolve the stuff.

I'd recommend dropping the tank to ensure that stuff doesn't get sucked up. While I realize that there are two filters to block the contaminants, with a turbo car, one moment of clogging will present a lean condition underboost and possibly bye bye motor.
