garrr... engine installs are a bitch

It's such a bitch getting an engine lined to the tranny.

I guess I'm going to have to let my transmission back down and get the engine bolted up first, since I'm not going to be able to get it lined up with the engine crane (someone did it for me last time). Do to the location of the points, it won't balance right.

How do you guys normally install the engine?

Just waiting for my impact wrench to recharge so I can get the transmission out of the way for the engine.

I bolted the tranny to the motor before I put it in. Didn't really take that long to put it back in the car after that.

same here. much easier than trying to do it while the engine is in the car

Yeah, I know. I just didn't want to have to deal with maneuvering the tranny past the radiator (which I didn't feel like taking out). Plus I originally just wanted to do a clutch install, so I only pulled the tranny. Then I had to pull the engine.

After I moved my tranny down and back (don't have to remove the harness or the speedo cable for that), I got the engine lined up in the mount holes after 30 minutes or so... now to put the transmission back... after I find where I put the mount bolts.

Guess I can do that tomorrow...

In the Future Valkyrie..take the rad out and install the engien and Trans Together.,.you Get lots of room that way.You can get the Engine to Sit on the Inside of the bay and then readjust your Chain so that the Tail stock points down.It will take TWO people but it works good..another way is Put the Engine IN..have The Trans OUT..just set the engine on the Mounts and point the front of the engine UP,and the engine rear Down(like it is gonna fly out of the bay.Get Under the car and you can Shimmy the Trans up and onto the Top Rear housing bolt,it should stay..then you can put the bolt on that One stud and put the rest of the Bellhousing bolts on....that Procedure you can do with ONE person..after the trans is bolted to the Engine then get a Jack, and Jack up the Tail stock of the Transmission and Put on teh Cross member and associated stuff..there ya go..Done!...

I just jammed some stuff (small empty spray paint can) under the front of the engine and I managed to get it in. It would be impossible without the extra angle.

Had to bang it like a two-dollar ***** to get it close enough to put the bolts in though.

Now the fun part begins... well, the less horrible part.

use a 2x4 if installing engine only also you can use the dowels that are on the bellhousing and use your longest bolts to pull them together just dont use to much force! and of course make sure the trans is in gear otherwise its damn near impossible also be gentle with your pilot bearing they like to fall apart/break during engine removal/install

The moment of truth is soon...

Just need to put on the exhaust (well, at least a downpipe), prime the oil, and I can fire it off.

God I hope it runs.

It started! Pretty easily too (about the same as if I had done any other major work on her, just had to fiddle with the gas a bit).

My oil pressure is at 60 PSI though, so I stopped her. Is that normal if you've shimmed the oil bypass, I wonder?
