Fuel smell when sharp cornering?

When turning sharp corners, and rarely when under hard acceleration, I smell fuel in the passenger compartment very strongly. And when the sunroof is open, the smell of gasoline is overpowering. Putting your hands through the roof channeling air inside makes it even worse! It's been doing this for the past week or so. And I've gotten into the habit of stopping and opening the hood as soon as I start to smelling fuel and I can't find any wet spots or leaks.

The pulsation dampner was replaced last year and I haven't seen any leak from it yet. And there are no visible puddles when the car sits for awhile before or after the fuel smell phenomena happens.

Any ideas? I'm really concerned since nauseating fumes are a no-no.

hey make sure your gaskets in your tail lights are OK my car did the same thing but it ended up being that I was running a little rich and the exhaust was getting pulled in. also when the car is running trace the fuel lines going to and from the tank for leaks.

Seriously the gaskets in the taillights? Crazy. I'll check them soon as I get off work. Any chance messing around with them could make them break? I'm sure they're OE so they may be brittle.

It is very possible that you're not smelling gas, it may be oil or engine fumes, check for oil leaks (especiallty onto the exhaust) and check your breather lines.

Trust me, it's gasoline I'm smelling. There's no substitute for 87 octane!

Make sure that the fuel filler neck is not cracked. Parts of it are made of rubber. The clamps can also rust and loose their grip. Another place to check is under the fuel pump access cover at the driver rear shock tower. If the flange gasket or any hose is damaged you can get leaks.

Umm.. Have you removed the UIM and checked the injectors? U can get the seal kit for the 2gen Rx7s from Autozone or Pepboys. YA they leak and it can cause a fire if they do.
