I am installing my Haltech and had already ran a very thick wire from the battery to the fuel pump.

However, my question is this. I have very thick wire going from teh battery to the fuel pump connector (not the one on the fuel pump asym.)

But for that last one foot of wire to the pump its self the wire is stock maybe 18 gauge.

Is this last foot of 18 gauge wire defeating the purpuse of running the thick gauged wire from the battery?

I know resistance is cumlative....so that last foot might not mater?

Just wondering if I should run the thick wire as close as I can to the fuel pump.

You'll be fine.

Let's call the resistance of the stock 18 gauge wire per foot X.
And, let's assume the wire you ran has a resistance per foot of X/4.

Let's also assume there is 1 foot of wire between the connection and the pump, and 12 feet between the battery and that.

Stock, you'll have 13X units of resistance.
With your setup, you'll have 12/4 + 1 = 4X units of resistance.

You're fine. And my numbers mean nothing, but sort of make a point.

Hey, I'm going to jack your thread!

Side question...

How does the fuel pump ground?
Does it ground back to the other thick (black?) wire through the wiring harness?
Or does it ground through the cover?

The fuel pump itself grounds to the bracket, but where does the bracket connect to ground?

The entire gas tank is floating on two "bands" that have foam insulation on it, so I doubt it's grounding through the bracket cover through the gas tank.

If the fuel pump *does* ground through the other thick wire, I'd suggest to cut that and connect to a more close ground with the same gauge wire as the Haltech - 14AWG?

Yeah, I have no idea where it grounds thru. I will run a few countinuity tests next time I am in the garage.

I would assume it grounds back thru the harness.

Also, there is no bonding strap for the fuel tank? I would guess there would be....how about it grounding thru the filler neck?

I'm not sure if you are asking a rhetorical question or a test question. If it is the former and it does not ground though the other wire, what are the possibilities that it grounds through the fuel itself? Just curious.
