fuel pump/tank issue......lots of gas on the ground...NA with TII pump

well as some of you may know I have a GTUs with a full TII conversion. The first time I got her running I forgot to screw in the fuel pump so when I filled up for the first time after the swap I overflowed and lost a couple of gallons. THAT'S not the problem, that was a stupid mistake on my part and I fixed it....... HERE IS MY PROBLEM:

a couple of weeks ago I filled up again and drove away and when I got home I smelled GAS and I looked and it was coming from the tank (i thought it was punctured) I pulled the carpet back and check the fuel pump I unhook it and remove the plate and I see that all the screws are on therejust fine but it seemed to be leaking from the fuel pump opening even though the pump was on there tight. I remove all the screws and check it all and I see no problem....I screw everything in (nice and tight) but I can still smell a little bit of gas every once in a while................has anyone experienced this before??

I think I should replace the entire fuel system (lines, filter and gas cap) but not sure what to do about the pump.

Do you still have the charcole canister filtering the gas fumes from the fuel tank? It's located in the engine bay.

Recheck everything again. Could be a leaky line somewhere.

Check the "gasket" on the cover?
It it got damaged, you'd get a nasty leak.
