Fuel pump problems

Hey guys. I'm new to Rx-7's, got one from a junkyard my dad works at but i had it running a couple days ago after i changed the fuel pump. Changed the gas because it had old gas in it and tried to start it up for my buddy and wouldn't run. It wasn't getting fuel anymore so pulled the pump and it was fried the wiring is pretty bad in the car. Is there anywhere i should start to look for the problem. I'm going to just start unplugging everything i don't need and see when it stops frying pumps as of now.

Check the fuel pump lines all the way back if someone rerouted them it could ground out on the frame if it gets too close to the exhaust. Also if you don't have enough gas the first time on start up it could burn up too because they require gas to cool.

Ya ok ill trace the lines but i had power going to the pump just not getting it through the pump. I had about 5 gallons of gas in the car before i drained it and after if thats enough? The car makes some weird sounds with the key on and drains the battery constantly so i just figured its somewhere in the wiring. Thanks though ill check the wires tomorrow

There is every likely that the fuel pump was just bad and happened to go out! Now if the car is not charging the battery then that is another problem in itself!

I would swap out that fuel pump for another. You can find them in alot of different mazda's from around that year and see if that fixes your problem.

Then just have the alternator rebuilt it might cost ya 50-100 buck's but make sure your wiring is in order first of course!

The fuel pump was brand new i just replaced it the day it was running but it only would run for about 10 seconds then died cuz the gas was terrible and there was oil in the chambers. The battery goes dead without the key even in it so i think there is a dead ground on something in the car or something along those lines which is draining the battery and fried the pump but could be wrong have been plenty of times before with cars. lol

Ok if it is going dead with the key out of the ignition switch maybe thats the problem? I would carefully check all your ground's and follow your battery ground down to the firewall and see if it is corroded or not? Also check to see if you have alot of acid inside the positive cables going to your battery.

Remember you can turn your headlight's on while the key is out too so make sure everything is off and do you have a manual?
