Fuel Pump kill switch?

I found that my car a fuel pump kill switch already installed by the previous owner. My question is, when do you use it? I mean do you guys use it everytime you turn the car off or what? I think I will just use it when I am going to have the keys in but have the car off(ex. if I just want to listen to the stereo). thanks.

Why not flip the switch each time you exit the car. It would be rendered "unstealable" to those misinformed about it.

The fuel pump does not pump with the key to the on position. The fuel pump is activated when you crank the engine which causes a flapper door in the afm to open and make a micro switch which completes the circuit to the fuel pump which makes it go whirr. I put a fuel cut sw in because the motor I overhauled would flood at just the sniff of fuel until I got some miles on it. Have not had the real need for it since. Also used to deplete the fuel pressure in my fuel rails when I break into the fuel injection system. Easier than pulling fuses. Lasst and not least used as a theft device. Also used as a curiosity device. Was curious how quick the engine would stop running if the fuel pump failed. It will stop in a nanno second when you switch to off. Also is you suspect a leaking injector causing flooding you can use it as a trouble shooting tool. It removes warts and cures the whooping cough, removes corns and makes hair grow.

Well, all I know is the only time my car flooded was when I had the keys sitting in the ignition. Never had any other problem with it in the year I have owned it. So its a good idea to just just kill the fuel pump everytime I get out? Thanks.

Well I'll put it this way. When that car rolled off the assy line, turning the key to the on position did not activate the fuel pump. What Tom, Dick and Harry did to the car after they bought it is another thing. Yeah. To prevent the possibility of injectors leaking and flooding the engine, kill the engine by fliping the sw to off, let the motor die and then turn the ignition off. That way the fuel rail is depressurized and fuel will not leak into the combustion chambers. Beats buying new injectors.

To turn the car back on, crank it a few times with the switch off. It probably won't start. If it does, it will die very shortly. AFter maybe 2 seconds of cranking, stop cranking, flip the switch, wait a few secs, then crank again. Should fire right up.

I've heard about ppl flipping the switch WHILE cranking, but the only time i did that, i flooded it. weird.
