Fuel Pressure Regulator....

Would not having one of these cause my motor to blow???

I have a Haltech E6K with 1680 primaries and 720 secondaries so I know I have plenty of fuel. But could the pressure of droped and cause my car to run lean and my motor go?

So I'm sure it couldn't hurt to purchase one so what should I buy? Brand? # of ports?

Any info would help greatly...

thanks
Kris

You have no FPR at all (very bad) or just a stock one (fine)?

You don't mention a fuel pump. without an upgraded one, you don't have enough fuel.

I don't know how much power you're making, but the stock FPR can support at least 400hp. There are many reasons an engine can blow, so you need to give us a lot more info.

Can you back this up? I am currious of this, why would mazda pay for overzealous FPR's when they are not needed? I would think they would be good to arround 300hp.

IF you have more information than I do please share it with me..

I downshifted from fifth into third on the highway and the car had a hiccup(sp) then I pushed in the clutch and idled like crap. Still started and ran fine up high but ran like crap down low... Took out the spark plug for front rotor and and thump: shoosh: shoosh(poor man compressions test. Threw an apex seal.

That's the figure I remember RETed suggesting before it needs to be upgraded. His FPR page isn't working so I can't confirm.

kleach18, I edited my post above. What's your fuel pump?

1680 Primaries?

Shouldn't the primary injectors have the 720's? I would think using 1680's for primarys you would idle real bad--or maybe not even work down low.

hold on now.

You've got to have a FPR somewhere. Is there one on your stock fuel rail? I can't believe that you have no fuel pressure regulator at all...

if you want an aftermarket one, you can get them lots of places. ebay, rx7store.net, etc.

Same reason they gave us fuel lines to support 400hp...

So the stock fpr would handle it fine. I think i'm gonna get one just to be safe...

What are some good FPR out there?

Its unlikely the stock FPR caused your fuel pressure to drop, but a fuel pressure gauge is an easy check.

Here's two imporant questions:
-What fuel pump voltage are you seeing under full electrical load?
-Do you have your FPR vacuum line properly referenced?

I use the aeromotive series regulators with great success. You need 2 inputs max (6AN is plenty big), and a boost reference of 1:1.

The FPR line was installed right...
Not sure about the voltage, I guess thats something I'll have to check when the new motor is in it.

Possible... would have been able to have been seen on a fuel pressure gauge.
I keep a fuel pressure gauge in my performance cars at all times.
