Fuel pressure gauge <- Oil pressure?

Hi to all,
I was speaking to somebody the other day and he mentioned that instead of a $200 electronic fuel pressure gauge, a $40 electronic oil presure gauge should work just fine; the senders are, after all, measuring a fluid pressure, so it doesn't matter what kind of fluid it actually is.
Is this guys right? Are the oil and fuel pressure senders basicaly the same? Or will the gas damage the oil pressure sender?
Any ideas?

Best regards

all i know is that mechanical gauges u have to put up a line all the way into your car to the back of the gauge. so it will basically be running gas into the car so best make sure it doesnt leak, other than that i would think it would work

but dont they sell mechanical fuelpressure gauges ? im sure u could find one instead of using a mechanical oil pressure gauge

Electronic oil pressure and fuel pressure senders are very different animals..

OP senders are the size of a recquetball and Fuel pressure senders are about the size of a shooter marble....

Fuel pressure senders usually have a two wire hookup and an oil pressure sender is a one wire hookup.... this tells me that the sender internals are completely different animals... and that there is a good reason for it.

The materials inside the sender are most likely different as well as some things will tollerate oil and be deteriorated by gas..

Therefore.... I'd forget about monkeying around and trying to use an oil pressure gauge for a fuel pressure reading..

A mechanical Fuel Pressure gauge may not be mounted insde the vehicle... you either have to use an isolator (which brings the price up to the range of an electrical gauge, or mount it on the hood.

Why?? A mechanical gague is a bellows and spring gauge, the fuel line is tapped into and the resultant pressure in the line is transferred to the gauge..

If a malfinction occurs, fuel will spray in your interior, or in your face.. on your lite cigarette.. etc.

You are correct.
"Fuel" and "oil" are petroleum products.
Both would present about the same chemical environment and exposure to the sender.
You just have the "wrong" labels on the gauges.

Paint is the same:
Automotive paint = big markup.
Truck or tractor paint = normal markup.
