Fuel Pressure Gauge How-To

I bought a Fuel Pressure Gauge for my 1990 GTU, now I need some advice/help on how to install it.

It came with a 1/8 NPT Electrical Sender Unit. What is the best place to install this sender? What additional equipment do I need to install this in my (stock) car? The sender has a threaded adapter, would Kragen/Autozone etc carry the parts required?

I would appreciate some links and pictures if anyone has one installed in their car.

Thanks in advance,

Get a brass Tee, and use it to tee into the supply line. Then install your sender on the open portion of the Tee..

what is the best place to install the T? ..a picture would help.

And what size T should it be? I wouldnt want to use the incorrect size and perhaps restrict the flow...

Thanks!

Uh.. IIRC the fuel line is approximately 3/8 inch OD. Let me find you an example of said Tee fitting...

Okay here:

http://www.brasscatalog.com/catalog_...o&cd=no&page=2

You can use a union Tee, then get you some of these Barb fittings.

http://www.brasscatalog.com/catalog_...&cd=no&page=14

THEN,

You install the sender on the unused portion of the Union Tee. Most of this stuff is probably available at Ace Hardware..

OR...

If you want to get SUPER TRICKY... You can use a fuel distribution block, then run your fuel system in PARALLEL!!!

OMG!!! LAWFLWAFFL...

those links dont work, seems like those links are based on ur browser's session.

Whats confusing or the hard part for me is to find the correct spot to install the T. And do i need some clamps or what? And do i just cut the fuel line? What else do i need to do prior to cutting the fuel line for this installation?

Okay, then type in the root (www.brasscatalog.com)(www.holley.com) and find the part.

Whats confusing you is the fact that you are overcomplicating this project. Of course you need clamps, but if I had to tell you that, I ran the risk of insulting your intelligence. Further more, YES, you will need to cut the fuel line in order to install the T-fitting. Lastly, there is no theoretical "correct" place to install this, since it was never supposed to be there anyways.

Here is what I am assuming.. I assume the sender is threaded, probably 1/8th NPT. The place I would install this sender if it were my STOCK car with a STOCK fueling system, would be after the fuel filter, where the line crosses the engine bay to the motor. This would place the sender close to several locations to feed a wire into cabin from the engine, which I assume you will need to do because I dont know of any wireless gauges (yet..).

What exactly do you want this gauge for anyways?

if you want to rig it quick and dirty, cut the fuel line on the high pressure side, that would be after the fuel filter but before the fuel rails. go to lowes, Home depot, or True Value, Aubichaun... you get the idea, and get a 3/8 in brass barbed T fitting, and 4 small hose clamps. then stop by your local autozone or whatever autoparts retailer you can and get 1 foot of 3/8 fuel line.

install Brass T with hose clamps in the cut fuel line then use the unused branch of the T and the 3/8 fuel line you bought and a hose clamp to connect to the FPG.

that should do if you use discression and a bit of mechinical knowhow, which you obviously have if you bought a RX7.

hope that helps,
TR

The FPG is electrical.. He needs to install a SENDER, that sends an electrical signal to the gauge..

*Stuff* is all over the web. Like the two jpgs attached.

Clamps. Hmmmm, I was wondering why I keep smelling fuel. Rubber bands musta given up holding the hose on.

That in line hose one is the ticket HAILERS.. That makes the project easier since it already has the 1/8th NPT for the sender. Good find..

How about this little hummer: http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pro...p?Product=3289

OR, you could just get a block of aluminum and a couple of drill bits and drill some holes of the right size and then tap 'em for the right threads. Cost less and if you have to buy the taps/drills, well they'll be there for another project in the future.

I'm outta here. Gone

Thanks guys, I got it all installed.

Cut the fuel line right after the fuel filter. added the brass T and clamps and wired in the fuel pressure sender. Everything workin, showing about 40 psi on the dial.

Now Im gonna start troubleshooting my car, and probably end up replacing the fuel injectors (flooding problems..). So to start off, i wanted to add a fuel pressure guage as it cost me the same as i would have paid for one of those fuel pressure test gauges, this one cost me $50 shipped.

Thanks for all the help.
